NBR Sister Wives.

Anyone ever watch Sister Wives? I'm sitting here bored and relaxing, and decided to check it out, cause IDK, it was something to watch.

Anyone else ever watch this? Opinions?

I find it interesting that the guy (Cory) wants to keep his lifestyle under wraps, and doesn't want his boss to know and yet here he is on a TV show...

Also, OMG those names!

Re: NBR Sister Wives.

  • Is this an old episode? It seems to me that they are pretty open about the life they lead now a days.

  • I've watched it before. Cody is something else. Sounds like you are at the beginning while they are still in Utah. It changes a lot (IMO) when they move to Vegas. I've also watched the TLC show "My Four Wives" or something like that. I only watched because that family loves pretty close to me. They seemed more...adjusted (?) to me than the Browns.

  • Yeah, this is my first time watching it. I'm not sure I could ever function in a lifestyle like that.

  • i find it FASCINATING. he's gross, to me. and you couldn't pay me to share my husband. although i've always wanted a sister and i kindof like the idea of "it takes a village". but still, no.

  • Yup.  I've watched it, every episode.  I have a strange fascination with polygamists (fundamentalist LDS).

I think many of the problems in the FLDS (the cult itself,  not all polygamist families) stem from secrecy.  The arranged marriages and distrust of the U.S. government began in the 1940s when they broke up families, imprisoned the husbands, many of them never reuniting with their extended families.  Christine's (Kody's 3rd wife) grandfather was imprisoned in this raid.

I admire the Brown family for the having the courage to become public.  This goes against every norm in their society.  Many of their family and friends weren't happy with this decision.

By no means do I think the Brown family is perfect and obviously they have some problems in their marriages, but I believe as long as the adults are consenting, it should be legal.
  • I watch this show...I find it quite interesting. I don't have much feeling about it, they seem happy and it works for them. The kids are well taken care of, and several are entering college age and the family is able to support them financially. I think you may be watching an old show because he understands that they are public and they chose to come out. It isn't for everyone and nothing I could ever do, but it works for them.

  • While the lifestyle isn't for me & I wouldn't be okay with my husband having another wife - I really don't care what they do. I like the show - & if they are cool with how things work in plural marriage - good for them.

It helps to have your own tv show.

By having a TV show that pays you lot of $$$$$.

From my experience, though, it's rare within the FLDS to have separate homes like they do. There are lots of compounds around here with one very large house, similar to what their first house (in Utah) was like. Of course it's still $$$ but not like what it would cost to own 4 brand new, custom homes in Vegas. The cost of living here is incredibly low. There is also very much the "take care of our neighbors/family/church family" mentality within the church (both LDS and FLDS).

I'm so interested in the FLDS, I've considered going on a trip just to see polygamists in real life.  Of course I realize how intrusive and rude this is...so I won't.  I have wondered where my fascination comes from, I think I must have been a polygamist in a past life.
  • It's Cody, not Cory. But I love that show. I find it really interesting learning about how they live.

It's Kody.  :)  And I couldn't agree more!  How do you manage all those different personalities?!

  • I've seen the show a few times. They seem to function very well as a family and most importantly they seem to be far from the type that raise their girls to be married off at super young ages to whomever their "leader" decides.

I have no problem with polygamy, polyamoury, open relationships, etc. Different strokes for different folks. There are some beautiful non-monogamous relationships out there.

    Girl, I totally agree 100%!

Me too. I find all religions fascinating. Have you read "Under the Banner of Heaven"?

That's my favorite book...by my favorite author.  LOVE Krakauer!
  • Are all the kids from the one guy?
All except for 3.  Robyn (4th wife) had 3 children from a previous marriage.

Some of these names are painful as all hell.

hahaha.  I'm scared to ask!  We plan to name our LO Logan, which is the Brown's oldest kid's name.
  • Although it isn't my lifestyle choice, I think they rock for having the courage to go public with their family.  To each his own, and if that's what they want, who are we to judge?

I love the show, because it shows how truly different everyone is in their household, religion, and beliefs.

    Go Brown Family :)

True...but it also shows how similar they are to monogamous Americans.

I agree! That is 100% true as well.  In the end, no matter how many wives he has, or children.  The most important thing to him is his family, and he makes that clear. Which is why I like him so much.

I really do wonder what they get paid. My former next door neighbor was a RHOC wife for a year and she said the money wasn't worth the lack of freedom for her and her family. She couldn't go to the park without people judging , staring taking pictures and crap.

Honestly, I can't understand why anyone would want to be a on a "reality" show.

What was really interesting is that she said the producers staged everything and set people against each other. She did not want to be in the drama, therefore less airtime, less money

Yup, that's typical...hence my quotations around the word "reality".

I have a friend who's a casting director for reality shows and he'd be the first to tell you just how fake and set up they are.

Relationships at their core are going to be very similar no matter if it's monogamous or not. We all need and look for (mostly) the same things out of them... I've never thought that monogamy changed that.

    Agreed.
  • I'm in the minority and did not grow up anywhere near the polygamy lifestyle or religion, but I could totally do it.
I don't know why but it would not bother me to share my husband with a sister wife. My hubs thinks I'm nuts and says he could not deal with 2 wives. I think I like the idea of a team effort, even in the bedroom;) lol.
