Pay for travel for hourly employees?

I'm just curious if anyone here is paid hourly and has had to travel for work.  How does your company pay you in those cases?  I have to travel all of next week (an annual event and the only time I have to travel).  I'll work all day but then at dinner time there are corporate dinners and planned entertainment.  It's not spelled out but you're expected to attend.  There's no rule about how the pay is structured for hourly people since there are only two of us who fall into that category.

  • I am paid hourly.  I have a yearly conference that I have to travel for and includes evening activities.  I get paid my standard scheduled hour (8 per day) for the days I'm at the conference.

  • I rarely travel for work, so I sort of make it up and my boss goes along with it without question.  I count travel time and time at evening events with required (or expected) attendance as part of my work day, and then either submit for overtime, or comp. the time if it suits my schedule.  My boss expects us to use the comp. time within the same pay period as its earned for some reason.  I think because the company doesn't officially offer comp. time, so this is done off the books and hard to track and keep honest about.
