2nd Trimester

Advice

At my 20 week ultrasound everything looked great but they did find an echogenic intracardiac focus on her heart which from my understanding is a calcium deposit which is a small marker for Down syndrome. They sent me for a level 2 ultrasound and did a more thorough look over our baby GIRL and they did not find any other markers of DS. Now they mentioned I could do two different blood tests to get more numbers to see the chance of DS. Would you get the testing done (I think one was called the quad testing) or just have faith in God that everything will be the way it is supposed too. I'm thinking I will not get the testing done since they said they found nothing else to worry about. Sorry so long but looking to see what other mamas would do.

Re: Advice

  • I'm trying to think of what I would do and I think if all this was covered by my insurance, which I assume it would be, I would do it.  I wasn't interested in doing the NT scan but I think at this point, after them saying there was a chance, I'd wait to know.  It's not like I'd terminal the pregnancy or anything but I think it'd be nice to be prepared.  It sounds like you have nothing to worry about, but I personally think I would worry and want to know for sure.

  • Thank you for all your replies. I know that I would not terminate. Not judging but how could anyone decide that fter seeing her tumbling and kicking and being so active. I feel like if I get the testing I might obsess with the number and percentage of chances her having downs. Then I feel like if I don't do the testing ill worry about not knowing. I'm going to talk to my doctor a little bit more and see what he thinks. Thank you for your support ladies.

  • So you didn't do your quad screening? I was told that theyre was a small white area on my U/S then the MD ask if I had the quad testing done and what the results were. They were normal. Then he said they would just watch it....from my research it is a soft marker for DS not directly correlated with each other.
  • I didn't do my quad screening but they offered it now and also another testing the ultrasound tech didn't remember the name. She said it was a newer test

  • I would probably ask about the harmony test .... it is covered by most insurance if you are over 35 and it is just a blood test & ultrasound combined....it is supposed to be very accurate....like 99%
