Just found out we are having twins!

Holy cow ... we weren't expecting that, but we are thrilled!  Our doctor said that they are measuring at 6 wks and we were able to hear the heartbeats.  The thing that has me really worried is that they are both heartrates were at 85.  That seems really low to me, but my doctor reassured me that we may have just caught that within 24 hrs of the heart starting.  We are going to do another ultrasound next week with a specialist to make sure that everything is ok, but I am freaked out.  Has anyone had any experience like this before?

    Congratulations! It's entirely normal that if the hearts just started beating that they're low-ish like that. Fingers crossed for a happy and healthy pregnancy!

    Congratulations! 6 weeks is pretty early. When is your next u/s?

    IVF #1 Sep '11 - canceled poor response

     IVF #4 Jan '13 BFN 11R/6M/6F 5dt x2 - BFN

     IVF #5 July '13 16R/10M/10F 5dt x2 + 1 frostie

    9dp5dt Beta 1 = 344!! 16dp5dt. Beta 2 = 4822 7wk u/s= 2 heartbeats!

    First off, congratulations!!!  And yes, I think that would be a very normal heartrate for 6 weeks.  At 6 weeks 3 days only one of my girls had a heartbeat.  By 6 weeks 6 days they both did...and we did IVF so I know the exact date they were.

    Thanks everyone!  I have another appointment scheduled for next week on the 16th.  I am just going to try to relax and enjoy in the fact that we are having twins!!!  It is so exciting!

    Yep the heart starts beating around 6w so that is perfectly normal! I found out at 6w too and the rates were I think 91 and 102 or something. Congrats!!

    Welcome to the group! These ladies are a great resource and source of support.
    BFP #1 on 12/15/11 but missed m/c with d&c on 2/1/12.
    BFP #2 on 5/1/13 = boy/girl TWINS with EDD of 1/3/14 but expected no later than 12/20/13.

    Welcome and Congratulations! Its an amazing experience to be able to carry twins. As pp said the ladies here are a great resource for information as they have first hand experience!

    Yay!! Super huge congrats to you!!! There's so much to be anxious about during pregnancy and especially so with two buns in the oven, but as best as you can relax and enjoy the ride!

    Welcome to the world of twins! 6 weeks is really early so don't sweat it. You'll see them next week and you'll feel better.

    Get ready for the kooky comments from people! Everyone has a twin story. Just remember that you're making your own twin story and that no pregnancy is the same.

    Read up about the different kind of twins you could have. Believe it or not there's a few.

    5/17/13 BFP!!! 6/6/13 - OMG its TWINS!

    Josie and Lexie were born on January 4, 2014 at 37w2d
    Josie was 5lbs2oz, Lexie was 4lbs15oz 
    Both had a 9 APGAR score with no NICU time
    Planned unscheduled C-Section due to both being breech
    We all went home on Jan 6th, 2 days after surgery

    With all three of my kids the HB at six weeks was around 100bpm. They said it must have just started. Many don't even see a HB at six weeks so just the fact that you did is good news. Congratulations and H&H 9 months!

    Thank you everyone for the kind words and positive thoughts.  Everything turned out perfect with the twins.  Baby A has a heartbeat of 134 & Baby B is 144!  My doctor did change my due date to June 6th and I am going to have to take progesterone for the first trimester, but other than that everything looks good!
