School me on Xbox 360 Kinect, Skylander, etc.

We own an old PS2 that we haven't played in ages (we only had one game, DH played it a bit in college). DS loves him some Ipad but it's a solo entertainer- it would be nice to at least play with him or have something he can play with others if he had a kid come over. So I was thinking maybe this Xbox 360 Kinect thingie. Is it easy to use? My son can't play the PS2 very well (at all)- very poor fine motor, not so great gross motor. But he probably just needs to get used to the controller (he uses the computer mouse well and is a whiz at the ipad). I was hoping the Kinect would get him moving around a bit. DS is 5 and a half (kindy)- would he like it? What kind of games do kindy kids like?

Also- Skylander?! This caught DS' eye at Target and he can't stop talking about it. The geek at Target tried to explain it to me but my eyes glazed over. Is this something that kids are into, or is it just a fad? It seems weird. Toys that interact with your gaming system- huh. DS already has all the Angry Birds Telepods on his Christmas list.

Seriously DH and I just looked at each other and were like wtf- when did we get old?!

Any advice appreciated. Are there other non-electronic toys that your 6 year old has on his Christmas list? DS has ASD and as such doesn't really follow trends like other kids, and has never really played with toys, much to our dismay.

    We have the Kinnect. I like it but DH is still pissed he got rid of his PS2 for an Xbox so we don't really play with it much.

    Skylanders is all the rage for SD and her friends. Definitely get Swap Force if you get a Skylanders game. It's the latest game and all the previous characters will work on it.

     TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38
    Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

    Moving on to IVF#1. ER 11/26/13, 16 eggs retreived, 12 mature and all fertilized. 2 blasts transferred on 12/1. All other embies arrested so nothing left to freeze. Beta 12/10 = BFN. IVF #2 March 2014. BFP!!! TEAM BLUE!!!

    We don't have a Kinect, but we do have Skylanders for the Wii. DS and DD love it! We have the original Skylanders, Skylanders Giants, and DS has already added the new one to his birthday list. They enjoy advancing the characters through different levels, and being able to swap them out and play as different characters. As far as video games go, I don't mind Skylanders at all!
