**UPDATED** Currently I'm "laboring" at home.

The docs say to go in when they are timeable (5min apart for an hour). No pain verbage...although I asked.

So I'm on bedrest, 1cm dialated, etc since 33w...I'm 35w, 4d today and while my water hasn't broken... I've been having timeable contractions off and on since yesterday, but the pain feels like menstral cramps...some hurt badly and others I could just breathe though, but I could deal at home.

I've been up since 430a with discomfort and timeable contractions.

For me, with DS... there was menstral cramping, which i went into the hospital for and since I was so far along (40w, 4d) they admitted me. Now, after my water broke (12hrs before DS was born) there is pain where whole body seizes up, and I am screaming for an epi.

Now they still say go in at a timeable 5min apart...but when would you go? When screaming or when you have menstral cramping? There seems to be no fricken answer as to the right time of when to go in, because I could be sent home, and dilated more...even though I'm a scheduled c-section. At 33w I had PTL which they stopped.

  • I would say when they are 5 min apart for an hour.

  • My midwife doesn't care a lick about timing.  She's more concerned with intensity.  I only live 5 minute from the hospital where I will be delivering, so that might have something to do with it.

She said once it's hard to walk or talk through them or the car is the absolute last place I want to be...that's when it's time to go in.  I've read so many responses that say even when they went in at 3-1-1, some of them still got sent home again.  But I'm a FTM, so I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants here.

If you are in true labor, will your hospital do anything to prevent baby from coming at this point?
I know once I got to 35 weeks, my hospital won't do anything to stop it.  If that's the case, I would think to wait until you feel like they are intense enough to warrant the trip.

  • Oh girl, we are in such the same boat! I wish I had some answers, but I am at a loss myself! Stopped PTL last week, went back with ctx 2 minutes apart, sent home because I wasn't dilated any further, even though they were more painful than the ones that got me to 2-3cm. Yesterday had my bloody show, now my timeable ctx are gone, replaced by the most intense menstrual cramps. But I'm so sick of them turning me away, I probably won't go in until her head's hanging out. Sheesh. GL! Keep us updated!
  • I had a few the other night that were about 7-8 minutes apart but they were so strong that I had to bend over into the fetal position to even breathe through them.  I had about 4 in a row, but then they just went away- if they had kept up for an hour I would have gone in.  My OB says 5 an hour- regardless of intensity- or if they are so bad I cannot move to go in.
  • I would say to head in when they are 5 minutes apart or you can't walk through them.

This. You need to listen to them, but obviously you want to go if mobility is in question.
  • This morning I noticed a slow leak of something is dampening a urinary pad & underwear, after 1.5hrs of putting on clothes. I changed again, and within 10min the dampness went straight through again.

In L&D Triage, but they have me in a waiting room lobby due to a crowded unit.

Good luck!  Sending you lots of vibes!
  • Good luck, hope all is going well.
  • Good Luck!  I hope you don't have to wait too long.  =(

  • @Princess_Lily Just wondering how everything is going for you? Did you ever get into a room or progress further along in labor? GL with everything!
