Conception poll

edited October 2013 in October 2012 Moms
I love doing polls, and I wanted to do this after I read the responses in the ute thread. Many said they conceived the first time they tried, but doesn't the average conception take 6 months, or even a year? How many cycles did it take to conceive your O12 baby? And please answer even if intervention was used! Hopefully I worded this right!

Re: Conception poll

  • I like polls too! It took me 6 months to conceive both pregnancies (mc at 7 weeks with my first). My sister got pregnant her first cycle and my girlfriend has been trying a year, I think there is a wide range for normal.

I chose 5 to 7 but counted in that the two miscarriages I had since technically all of that was on the road to conceiving Henry. If we don't consider those, it was only one cycle.

  • In case you can't see my siggy, we TTC from 2004-2011. Well, I wasn't ovulating for most of that, but we did actively have unprotected sex in case I did ovulate. We couldn't afford medical intervention so it was a hope and pray deal.

Got pregnant in October 2011, lost that baby. Now here we are.

  • Yes I did! I've been on mobile and I've been too lazy. We keep getting rained out, so hubs hasn't been too thrilled lately :)

  • 16 cycles, 3 rounds of clomid, and 1 miscarriage (12th cycle TTC and 1st cycle clomid).  3rd round of clomid did the trick ... and now my baby is about to turn 1!

  • For my O12 baby, the second cycle but I had just finished breastfeeding, which I believe increases fertility. For DD1, it took about 5 months.

  • @piffle42 just be kind. Understand if/when she doesn't want to hang out. But for me, I hated when friends walked on eggshells around me like I was defective. I already felt defective. They weren't helping. Lol Just be there.

  • Stopped BC and while I was busy counting how long my natural cycle was, I turned out to be pregnant. Miscarriage. Then I started counting the next cycle from the date of miscarriage, thinking that was the start of the cycle... turned out I was pregnant again! (OB didn't think it was necessary to wait before trying again.)

    Also miscarriage.

I was under a huge amount of work stress, so we decided to stop trying, and used condoms for the next few months. DTD without a condom one day, because we figured it was too close to my period to be near ovulation, and bang, pregnant again! Luckily the work stress was almost done, and whether or not they were connected, that pregnancy turned into my little one-year old.

  • With my first, I went off bc right after we got married and tracked my cycles (charting) for 2 months. Then we found out he was deploying so we were TTA that 3rd month. Well, my chart went wonky and moved my cross hairs so I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks before he left for 6 months. With my 2nd, I was on the nuvaring but taking antibiotics so my cycle was easily messed up. I took out the ring and we used condoms the whole month following since we wanted DS1 to be closer to 2 before TTC. We missed using the condom one time and here we are. I should have known better since I could tell I had fertile CM, but we were still excited. Now I know I'm pretty fertile and can't slip since DH is on a sea tour and will be leaving for 9 months.

  • 5 cycles I believe. Two of those five we were not together during the expected fertile window (business travel). Seemed like a long time at the time!
    DD 9/15/12
  • Im also a fertile one, which is why DH REALLY wants to get a vasectomy because I tend to get pregnant by rubbing elbows with him. DD1 was conceived our first cycle of "not preventing" (which was way faster than I anticipated) and DD2 was a surprise due to my lackluster commitment to charting and one reckless encounter with DH.

I do not take this blessing for granted, but like pp said, sometimes I wish I could pass on my fertility to someone else who really wants (more) children because I dont need it anymore!

  • I got pregnant the first cycle off of birth control but then had a CP...took 9 months after that of messed up cycles, no ovulating, clomid and still no ovulating and then a random miracle ovulation while the RE was doing my work up to get pregnant with DD...this time I got annoyed with the mini pill and stopped taking it (we decided to see what happens) and was pregnant the next month, now I'm 25 weeks. After this baby I'm looking for a very reliable form of birth control because 2 u 1.5 is freaking me out!

  • First cycle with DS2 with DS1 it took 5 cycles.

  • I'd have to count how many cycles it was, because I have longer cycles, but after 18 months, I went to the RE. Got pregnant that cycle with the clomid challenge test. Had a miscarriage. Did another cycle of clomid and nada. Emme was conceived the next cycle without assistance.

  • Two cycles for us. I stopped taking my birth control in November of 2011 and then found out I was pregnant the beginning of February 2012. Complete shock since my doctor told me that since I had been on birth control for about 10 years it would take me at least a year to get pregnant.  She was very wrong now we use birth control and condoms because we are not ready for #2 yet.

  • My oct 12 baby took well over a year and medical intervention. I did not ovulate at all for many years. My current pregnancy happened the first cycle of not preventing. It was a big (happy) surprise.
  • With DS1, I got KU the third cycle.  Had a m/c.  Then got KU the 2nd cycle after the m/c.

DS2 was conceived during the 6th cycle.

  • funny how you feel so isolated by miscarriages when they happen but even from this poll they seem to actually be the norm.

  • Neither of mine were planned so I really have no idea. DH always says he has super sperm and that it would only take one time if I didn't have an IUD in.

    Very true
In the real world, I don't feel like people talk about it all that much but when you go through it and talk about it, people either have had personal experience with it or are close to someone who has.  I selected one cycle because we got pregnant during the first cycle of trying for DD but after reading others' posts, I am thinking about it differently.  We also had a loss so it was more like 6 cycles to get where we are today.

it was my experience that once I shared about loss everyone and their mother had stories. Like, more people than not.

Yes, I wasn't clear, but this was my experience as well.  Once I started talking about it, I realized how common it was because everyone had a story to share.
