I was just dealing with this! After every shower, if she'll let me, I wipe out her ear lobe, never going inside the ear but closely around the entrance and all over the folds of the outer ear, with q tips until she is clean or until she fusses for me to stop. In a good mood she likes her ears cleaned.
My dr. said "never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow".
I do the same for my ears, though they tend to stay much cleaner than DD's. She seems to make a lot of earwax!
I gently scrape it out of the ear canal entrance with my pinkie nail. He doesn't seem to mind at all. I clean out the exterior folds of his ear with Q-tips.
Our ped told us to use Debrox to soften the earwax-- but he has abnormally chunky earwax that wasn't resolving on its own. I put the drops in his ear but never put anything in the ear canal.
I also use the baby Q-tips. I just clean her outer ears with them, and barely the canal. She can get stubborn ear wax stuck to the tragus part of her ear. When that happens, I use a baby wipe to clean it off.
I once had the cotton from a Q-tip break off in my ear and had to have the doctor remove it. So embarrassing! Now I'm pretty careful about how I use them.
My baby has TONS if earwax, just like his dad. I used the fat baby quips to clean around his eat but don't stick it in the ear hole (whatever it's called haha)

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

we use the qtips too and its seems to work fine for us. Also if the wax is where I can see it I put a tissue on my fingers and wipe it out.
