If you had tearing

How long did it take for your stitches to dissolve? I'm about 3.5 weeks pp right now. My hubby looked at them the other day and said its healing well but the stitches are still there (which i already knew). When did you notice your stitches had totally dissolved?

Re: If you had tearing

  • I had a set this time around that took 5 weeks to dissolve.

  • I only had a couple, but they were completely gone around 4.5 to 5 weeks.

  • Same here.  5 weeks.
  • I believe mine were gone by 4 weeks. Nightly warm bath soaks helped a ton.
  • Mine were totally gone by 4 weeks, but I only had one very minor tear.

  • I didn't look myself, but I had an extra follow-up appointment at about three weeks postpartum, and my midwife said they were mostly gone at that point. They were completely gone and I was fully healed when I went for my six-week checkup.

  • The bottom stitches were gone in about 2 weeks and the top stitches were completely gone at 6 weeks.

  • I wish I was brave enough to even look! I have no idea how many stitches I had! I was even too scared to ask...3rd degree tear!

  • Count me in as someone too scared to look. I didn't even want to ask how many stitches with my 4th degree tearing. However, I'm 3.5w pp and things are feeling mostly normal down there

  • I refuse to look, I'm almost 6 weeks pp and dr said today that there were still a few stitches left on the inside??? Not sure what that means but apparently they are not all gone yet. I was a 2nd degree tear.
  • I was completely fine at 3 weeks and no longer felt anything (my bleeding had also stopped).

  • The doctor told me that mine would dissolve in 2 weeks? Is that unusual since you all seem to have them longer?
  • I never thought to look, I felt pretty much back to normal at 2.5 weeks

  • At 4 1/2 weeks I started getting a pulling sensation that was a bit painful so I went to see the dr. She said one of the stitches was pulling on my skin a little but it was normal and not to worry so I'm guessing I still had them at that point. By the time I went in for my 6 wk follow up, they were gone.

  • Mine didn't dissolve at all at 4 weeks pp and they had to be removed manually. I still have friable tissue from the irritation the stitches caused.
  • 4th degree episiotomy, all stitches gone by 3 weeks.
