Did anyone do genetic testing?

I had a D&C today (went very smooth, thank The Lord) and I opted to send some of the tissue to be tested. Did anyone do this? What information do they provide? I passed the sac and most tissue naturally at home yesterday, so can they really find anything? I was telling my husband maybe we would find out if it was a boy or girl but he's doubtful bc I passed most at home.

This is my second miscarriage. I had my D&C on Monday and they are sending the babies for testing. I don't have any answers, yet. Like you, I'm hoping to at least find out the sex. Hubby & I are basing our next move on the results of the testing. Hopefully they tell me it's "just one of those things", and not something to stress in future pregnancies. Hope you get some answers!!!

I had genetic testing done. My d&c was 2 weeks ago. We just had our follow up appointment. We were told there was a chromosomal abnormality with our baby, and my dr said DH or myself could possible be a carrier for it. She is sending us now to a genetics counselor for further testing. I was so emotional I forgot to ask about the gender. I am going to ask the genetic counselor though. I hope you get the "just a fluke" answer. That's what I was hoping for.

We are waiting for our results now and hopefully find out what happened next week. How far long were you? I would think that because it was genetic testing they would for sure know the sex. A test that is now offered (cell free dna) which is given fairly early on tells this so again I don't see why not. Hope you get some good news!! HUGS!

I do not believe they are checking for the sex as that is not the important part of testing...unfortunately as much as we are curious about it. Doctors are more concerned about why it is happening. That is what we've been told by 3 different genetic doctors.

They want to understand what is causing it to happen, especially if it happens more than once. Most likely they wont ever test for the sex. especially as the sexual organs dont develop until week 14.

(and I apologize if that was harsh! that was not my intention at all. My husband and I just had our second m/c and we are trying to understand genetically what is going on.)

My apologies if I hurt any feelings.

    xx

I was told to bring some of the tissues to my dr appointment on Friday.  So far, I only had blood clots.   Since I was only 7 weeks, does anyone have idea if the tissue would be of significant size for 6/7 week pregnancy?  I was worried that it accidentally went down as I went to pee.   However, I think my Dr extracted a tissue when she performed the pelvic exam so hopefully that was it.   I didn't quite remembered as the minute she said I miscarried, I was in a fog and started crying right there.

@KTlovess you're totally right. All I meant is many genetic specialists are trying to focus on the causes of the miscarriage. But what's important to people totally depends on the person and I understand wanting to know the sex.

My testing yielded the sex and a chromosomal abnormality on 9 and 21. We have opted to go with PGD testing for the next round of IVF, it is worth it not to go through this pain again (or at least limit the probability). I could never have imagined how painful a miscarriage could be before now.

I miscarried naturally and asked my dr if I should bring any tissue in.  My dr advised no because the tissue would be contaminated.  In the next few weeks we will be sent out for genetic testing which is different than the genetic testing/counseling that I already received.  That testing I did earlier this year revealed that I carry the fragile x gene but I was advised that it could possibly affect my great great grandchildren.  It is confusing...
