Sleep help

Sweet Pea is 3 months old, and is hating going to sleep. She's giving me all the cues (rubbing her red eyes, fussing, not interested in anything) but is not falling asleep. I've tried nursing, cuddling, wearing, white noise, sitting in a dark quiet room, rocking, combinations of all these things but she's not having any of it. It's been like this for the past week and I'm going nuts. Today we also drove to the mountains, and she had 2 two hour naps. Any suggestions... Right now I'm all out, and lying in bed with the hair dryer track from happiest baby on the block going, while she stares at me with wide eyes, and occasionally bleats at me. I'm starting to lose my mind from exhaustion.

Re: Sleep help

  • DD used to do this kind of thing at about that age. I realized, after reading about it, that it was gas and indigestion from oversupply and over active let down. maybe you don't have those issues, maybe you formula feed but maybe she has gas? It certainly kept my LO awake when she was sleepy :( she and I had all the symptoms of OS and OALD and when I regulated my supply she stopped screaming instead of falling asleep when it was time for/she wanted to go to bed!

  • My nearly 100% success rate (with first failure today) is taking J swimming. She is 9mo and we have been doing "swimmy" since she was two months. It is followed by a shower, comfy clothes, a speedy drive home, and nurse to sleep and bam, long nap! We live in a warmer climate, so our season is super long. Does sweet pea like baths? Can you take a bath together? Get her kicking and splashing.

  • How far apart are her naps/bedtime? I ask because it is WAY easier to get DD to fall asleep if she's on a sleep/awake "rotation" of sorts. On days that work best for us, she winds up getting up around 6:30, quick nap at 8/8:30, and then is awake from 9-11, sleeps 11-1, up 1-3, sleep 3-4:30, bed around 7/7:30.

All these times are WAY approximate - it's more a rhythm than any sort of schedule, but she seems to do best when she's never awake for more than about 2.5/maaaaybe 3 hours at a time. On days when she skips a nap, or is up for 4 hours in a row, all hell breaks loose and it's much harder to get her to go to sleep at bedtime, or stay asleep for more than a few hours.

  • I wish I had words of advice, but all I have are words of encouragement. My DD went through the same phase and it was awful, but it did pass. Hang in there and I hope you can get some sleep soon (and your LO).
