Newborn photos

If you took your LO to a photographer for newborn photos, how long did it take for them to process and send your order? I feel like my photographer is taking an extra long time, and our order includes birth announcements. DD is 2 1/2 months old, at this rate, we'll likely get the announcements a month from now. Isn't it kinda late to send birth announcements to friends and family when the baby is almost 4 months?

Re: Newborn photos

  • It's never too late to send them, but that is a very long time.

DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18

  • A week after the shoot the photographer had the photos up online for me to look at and choose the ones I wanted on a disc. After I told her the ones I wanted, I had the disc a few days later. I got all my announcements out a little over a week ago.

I don't think it's really ever too late, it's something a lot of people will really enjoy getting no matter when.

  • I got mine a week or two after the shoot, it does seem like your waiting awhile, can you call them to see what's the hold up?
  • We didn't buy any actual prints from our photographer. We ordered digital copies with copyright releases. We got them as soon as we paid for them, it's really the only way I do professional photos anymore. Prints are just too expensive!

FWIW - I literally *just* mailed our birth announcements and LO will be 2 months in 2 days. As long as you get them out before the New Year, I'd say you're safe. ;)

  • She said they would be ready in 2 weeks. I got them 3 weeks after they were taken and even then I had to push a little to get them that soon.

  • Just got the edited digital images yesterday. Working on selecting an announcement now.

With DD1 I knew which imagine I wanted for the announcement right away, so she sent me that edited image immediately.

  • Ours was a month later, but the photographer was unhappy with the prints and requested new ones, which is why I think it too so long.

2.5 months seems like a stupidly long time to be waiting.

  • Ugh, yeah I'm kinda getting the feeling she's avoiding me. I email, call and message in Facebook asking for status, she waits a week or two to reply and in the reply she always asks a question that i reply within a few hours, but still her responses are a week or so later. maybe she's purposely taking her time because I'm a pest? Although, I only started pestering after 6 weeks of not hearing a thing from her. Grrr... Frustrated. Next time I'm just going to Sears or something, and definitely go for the digitals instead. I would've got digitals this time but I didn't know it would cost $1000!

Nothing wrong with that! DS's newborn, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 18 month photos were taken at Walmart.
  • We had access to an online gallery after 2.5 weeks and received a USB with the pics at about 3 weeks.
  • Yea, I be pissed at this point. What does the contractual agreement say regarding timeframe?

I got mine back within 3 weeks.

What $1000 for a disk that is insane.

  • ours were really quick.  We received them within a week of taking the picture.
  • one of the photographers we used were like 900 for the disk.  I'm not sure at the time if it was because it was still all new.
  • We spent $130 for ours (disc included) and got ours back within a week.

  • We got ours taken when LO was 5 days old, and we got them back last week.

Have you emailed the photographer and asked what the hold up is?

LO had her photos taken when she was 5 days old, and we had the pictures the following week. Our photographer gives us a disc, and we order the prints through Costco, etc.

I did ask on one of my emails, all she said in reply was 'so sorry for the delay!' So no explanation, and I don't know if that was even an answer to my question or a statement about how long it took for her to reply to that email, which was a week later.
