To wait, or not to wait, That is the question

Hi Girls-

DH and I are planning to start TTC soon. I am ready now, and when i talked to him about it he was concerned if i were pregnant i would not enjoy our vacation we have planned in december. IF we were to get a BFP this month i would be 10w on our trip.

Any advice as to whether or not i should wait and enjoy our "Last Hoorah" vacation or not?

Thanks,

-Angela

  • Don't put your life on hold because you *might* be pregnant.

Not to be a debby downer to your excitement, but it can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive and you have about a 20% chance every month of getting pregnant.  So, either you will be pregnant and you may have to deal with morning sickness while on your trip (if you get it at all), or you won't be and it can be a "last hoorah" and who knows, you may get KTFU on that trip instead.

I wouldn't hedge your bets on getting pregnant on the first try. I say plan your vacation as if you weren't going to be pregnant, and if anything changes between now and then you'll have plenty of notice to change your trip accordingly.

Hubby and I had similar thoughts about our Honeymoon (we went after we'd been married a year) and decided one of our qualifications before we started TTC was to go enjoy ourselves on vacation. If you're concerned about being pg, just wait a little longer. It's only a few months, you'll get your last Hoorah and then you can focus on TTC.

just my two cents! Good luck!

  • While the odds aren't necessarily in your favor it's still a possibility. If you agree with your husband that you might not enjoy yourself then I say eliminate the risk altogether. It's only a few months. Plus this is supposed to be the last big trip before baby, right? If it were me I would hold off on TTC. But if you believe you can still have a good time then go for it. Good luck!

  • We're in the same boat.  We have a trip planned in November and have agreed that we'll start trying during that trip.  I'm calling it our Babymoon.  If my cycle stays regular, I'll be ovulating while we're in Hawaii!
You should do whatever is best for your family, if you don't think you can relax and enjoy your trip, then wait, a couple of months isn't going to make that much of a difference, or if you're ready for a family right now, then go for it!  Like PP said, it could take a little while to get pregnant, so keep that in mind.
    Good luck!

  • Would it spoil your vacation if you were pregnant?

If yes, then wait.  If not then start trying now if you want.

  • I dont think it would ruin my vacation. And it would still be our last "Hoorah."

    Thanks.

  • We started trying in June, even though we had our 'last hurrah' vacation to Italy planned for late July.  I figured even if I did happen to get pregnant right away, it wouldn't really be enough to affect our trip.  I ended up not getting pregnant until last month, so it was a non-issue anyways.

We do have another vacation coming up in 2 weeks to Hawaii and the only thing my pregnancy affects is that I can't go scuba diving, which is a small price to pay.
  • Thats what i figured. In my head, i have a feeling it will take a while. My doc told me i have a "tilted cervix" and it could be difficult to conceive. So... i figured we might as well start trying. But DH made it sound like i will be so miserable and not be able to have fun if i were pregnant. The only think i would be bummed about is wont be able to go parasailing. I think his reasoning is in case i got a horrible case of morning sickness or something... Which is a valid concern.
