Re: *JSM or Bzeety* quick ccrm question

  • We booked our flights once we got the calendar. We flew Southwest, because they do not charge a change fee, and we obviously knew these dates were not set in stone. Our flight out there was exact to the calendar (my cycle is pretty much clockwork), but we had to change our returning flights. They had my ER tentatively scheduled for 2 days earlier than it was. They had estimated 9 days of stims, and I kind of knew it would be longer based on my previous cycles. If you can fly Southwest, that is probably your best bet, or another airline that doesn't charge to change flights. If not, maybe book your flight out but hold off on the return flight? Hopefully you find an airline that is flexible with changes! Once you know when you get your LH surge, you should at least be safe to book your flight out there.

  • Congrats on getting your calendar!

We were staying with family each time, so booking a hotel wasn't an issue and staying an extra day or so wasn't a big deal. That said, we did our outgoing flight for longer than the time given on my med calendar.

I too was stimmed far longer than usual at C.CRM. I usually stimmed for 9 days here, but they pushed me to 11 or 12 (I can't remember).

I also felt the best after ER than I've ever felt. I was usually out for about 2 days afterwards, but I was up and around the evening after ER - even with 43 eggs retrieved.

There is a ton of fun stuff to do around the area, so make good use of your time while you're stimming if you can and research day trips and such. Usually we had an early AM bloodwork appt and u/s for follicle growth and then had the whole day to see museums, shops etc... and visit cool towns and see the mountains.

We booked our flights through Fron.tier and bought their most expensive version of a ticket (which is fully refundable) - it's the same on Southwest. So you'll pay more than the cheapest ticket, but it's worth it. Medical reasons are not usually refundable on most airlines, so that's why we did it.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks much you two. I think I may book southwest for that reason. It is hard to pass up spirit because its $83! My problem is with the return flight it may be on thanksgiving so it may be incredibly expensive to wait til last minute! It is good to know that they pushed you two a little bit longer than usual though, as that may be the case with me, too. As for doing fun outings, DH is not going to make it out until the day before ER, so I think I may do a lot of sitting around the hotel unfortunately. I hate to wander around alone in a place I'm not familiar with, but we will see when boredom sets in! Thanks!

  • Maybe you can book the cheap ticket on Spirit for your way there and do Southwest or Frontier for your return flight, since that's a little more unpredictable? Also, I forgot to mention hotel...you can definitely book that now. I think they all have a 24 hr cancellation fee, so you are safe with that. We stayed at the Marriott which was really nice and a convenient 1 min drive from the clinic.

And yes, they will probably push you a little extra with stims. Like Bzeety said, I also felt the absolute best I have ever felt after ER, even with my E2 getting to 7,000 and 21 eggs. My other 3 rounds I felt like crap for at least 3 days. They are unbelievable at preventing OHSS, even if it means a few extra injections to calm the insides down! I would suggest requesting a wheelchair if you leave the day after ER. I actually felt really good but still was happy to get wheeled through the airport. And it was a nice bonus to get to board the plane first.

Let me know any other questions you have as they come up. I know my head was spinning when I started all of this!

  • Thanks, J&D, for asking this question. Thank you ladies for sharing these tips! My ODWU is scheduled for next week, and we still haven't purchased airfare. We have more questions to ask tomorrow first. I am very hesitant to go through with this first, since I have not had a mammogram in about a year and a half. I will have to get one ASAP & hope it is clean. <sigh.> One thing after another!

  • As for things to do:

Denver has a great art museum and a fantastic science museum - both totally safe to wander around in. The city itself is small but both of these sights are in safe areas and easily accessible.

The Tattered Cover in downtown is a FABULOUS bookstore where you could spend hours looking.

Boulder is super lovely and would be perfect for holiday shopping. Again, really safe & charming downtown area with a lot of normal people.

Cherry Creek is also a popular upscale shopping/restaurant area. Fun to poke around. Again, safe and with lots of normal peeps. Just some ideas.
