Babies: 6 - 9 Months

another sleep question

So DD changed it on us again, like she does every few days, and I am trying to figure out if there are any reasons to it. I understand there may not be and it's another one of those things that we have to wait out.

She has been waking up at 4 to 5:30 am and staying awake for 1.5 to 2 hours. I watch her from the monitor. She's constantly yawning and tossing and turning, it seems like she just can't fall back asleep. She fusses when she gets frustrated that she can't fall back asleep and I've tried nursing her to get her to go down. When I put her down after nursing she just lays there with her eyes half way open for like an hour.  Then at 6 to 7 am when it's time to wake up, she falls back to sleep and if I let her she'll continue sleeping through the morning.

We've tried putting her to bed earlier, later, same time as usual. This has happened whether she has had a day with good naps or bad naps. Her diet hasn't changed either. She has been working on crawling for a while so it's not a new development (i don't think?).. she's doing the swimming action, so I thought maybe that's what's keeping her up but she was doing that last week too..

anyone has had this experience? Anything I can do or just wait it out? I feel bad that she's so tired but can't fall back sleep and she is crankier during the day because she's tired...

Re: another sleep question

  • Do whatever it takes to get her to sleep. For us that sometimes means the swing or co-sleeping. We try the rocking, singing, soothing and back to the crib first but if it wont stick we do whatever works for that time and try again tomorrow.

  • I bounce mine on a exercise ball for 5 min and he is out like a light. For some reason he doesn't like the swing or the rocking motion. If they can make a chair that gently bounced up and down instead of back and forth like a glider I would be in heaven.

I have been trying to get her to go back to sleep but it's usually not successful at that time of the day for some reason. I rock her in the nursing chair and hum while nursing for like half an hour, we don't turn on the lights either, it's totally pretty dark. She just stares at me...doesn't want to go down..
  • sorry, she's 7.5 months.
  • interesting. Could be something developmentally she's working on, could be the temperature of the room...who knows.  could be when she's decided to be up for the day for awhile....especially if she's put for 1.5-2 hours and then essentially taking another nap
