Ugh! DC and potty training (long vent)

So DS is doing SO good at home with potty training. Like I said in my last post I put him in underwear all day and pull ups for nap and night time. I've been working with him for 2 weeks now, and off and on with him for awhile before that. Well I took pull ups for him to daycare to try it out. I wanted to just try it out there because I know he's way more distracted there. (I work at the same place he goes) asked his teacher at lunch how he was doing and she said he wouldn't even go for them. Which I knew right away was a lie because he will squeeze any little drop out every single time. So I go to pick him up and I'm waiting to talk to his main teacher and the first teacher I talked to earlier says he did better in the afternoon that he acually went. So as I'm waiting for his teacher I look at his bathroom chart for the day and they hadn't even taken him in the morning like she said! She only took him once in the late afternoon when I went to pick up, the other times they just changed him like a diaper. No wonder he didn't do "good"! So his main teacher tells me that she doesn't think he's ready so they just want to use diapers for now. Which I know is my choice but I am NOT going to spend more money on pull ups when they are just going to lie to me and tell me they took him. Sooo frustrating! I'm still going to do it 100% at home, I just hope it doesn't mess him up too much since he's at daycare 9 hours a day :[ sorry just had to vent!

  • Yeah that is pretty frustrating. This is one of my reasons for waiting to potty train because DS's 1 year class at daycare does not do any kid of potty training until they go to the 2 year old room.  I thought that it might be too confusing for him to do the potty at home but never at school so I decided to wait until he is in the 2 year old room.

If they have the same policy as our daycare then they should be telling you that upfront and not lying. I'd definitely confront them on that.

  • I'm sorry daycare isn't supporting you. I replied to your post on WMs, and don't want to repeat it all. I just wanted to tell you that I don't think he's too young, and I do think you should keep working on it. I just think you should try harder to get DC to support you.

I'm starting to appreciate how great our DC has been about potty training. Both of my girls started potty training at 22 months and it hasn't been an issue. They have to take DD2 across the hall to the 2s class to go potty, and they don't care. They will do whatever we ask. I am so thankful for that.

After I saw your post I was excited and hoped our daycare would work with him too but for a lot of the toddler teachers where I work it's more work for them and they are just lazy. Luckily the last 2 days have still been good at home so I'm hoping he isn't too confused.

  • Ugh, I'm really sorry they aren't willing to work with him more. It's great that he continues to do well at home.
