WWYD re: car without carseat/stick shift/snowstorm

Tomorrow we're expecting 8-14 inches of snow. My car is newer, safer and DH's car is stick, old, and has bald tires. He has to drive 45 min to & from work tomorrow. My car has the carseat. Would you let DH take the car if you were stuck home with a vehicle that you didn't know how to drive/was unsafe/had no carseat? What if there was an emergency??

  • I always preferred my stick in the snow...

As for the carseat... if you really had to get out, you could strap it in with the seatbelt.

  • I would let him take it.?
  • I'd let him take it too.....if there was a serious emergency, you could always call 911.

I hate the snow.....wonder if it'll be as bad as they are saying. ?I'm just thankful that daycare is 2 minutes away from home so there is little time with the kids in the car.?

  • let him take the car. you can call 911. probably safer anyway...you don't want to be driving panicked in an emergency in all that snow.

  • yes, if you have a bucket seat, you can install it with the seatbelt, which is just as safe, if not safer (no chance of it being ejected from the base). I've done it plenty of times, and it's always very tight.
  • We have this same dilema.  I let him take my car two times this week.  I have actually enjoyed being holed up in the house!  We do have an extra base in his car, but I really suck at driving a stick- so I would be better off calling 911 in an emergency!
