Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

14 mo needs circ redone

My little guys is almost 14 mo and has a some penile adhesions. My ped referred me to a urologist and he wants to perform surgery by recircumsizing him to correct it and detach the adhered skin. He will be put under anesthetics, which terrifies me since he's so littleI'm nervous to put him through this ordeal. They recommend having the procedure done earlier than later, so it's scheduled for December. Anyone have any advice?

  • My husband had his redone when he was 18 months. He doesn't remember any of it. And that was back in 1978...so I'm sure there's even less to worry about this day in age. I know as a mommy it's scary but he's going to be fine, and I think you (and him when he's older) will be happy it's corrected!

  • DS needs to have his redone.  It wasn't done properly by my OB.  The Urologist won't do the surgery until 18-24 months due to the anesthesia.  We go back in January to have it rechecked & surgery scheduled.  I'm not nervous yet but I'm sure I'll be a mess as the surgery gets closer.

I don't have any advice. My cousins son had to have this done. We were told when my son was young to make sure we were pulling back the extra skin so that it would not adhere. My DS's adhered alittle when he was a few months old and we just pulled it back, it was red and angry so we applied Vaseline.
You're right, we were told to pull back extra skin as well so it would not adhere, which we did. Unfortunately everyone's body responds differently. His twin brother didn't have any issues. Ugh!
