DS STTN...unless his dad is home

So DH works the night shift four days a week, and then he's home for the other three days. DS has been sleeping through the night pretty well for the most part - occasionally he wakes and whimpers for a few minutes but then puts himself back to sleep before I even get out of bed. But on the nights DH is home, he nearly always wakes up wailing in the middle of the night and stays up for hours.

DS absolutely adores his dad - whenever he comes home or gets up in the afternoon to get ready for work, DS is nearly bouncing with his intense desire to be picked up and cuddled by him. It is nice because that means I get a good break and their relationship is adorable and very close, but I'm wondering if maybe he can tell by the smell that DH is home and so can't bear to be in his own room for the whole night because he knows his dad is right there and he wants to play with him.

If that's the case, that's sweet and everything, but it's exhausting us and frustrating DH. Any thoughts on what else this could possibly be or any possible solutions? Thanks.

Re: DS STTN...unless his dad is home

  • I don't have any advice but my Dh works away from home during the week so he is gone m-f, comes home Friday nights and leaves early Monday morning. I can relate to what you are going through! My DD loves when daddy is home and wants to stay up playing or just looking and smiling at daddy. Friday nights are always hard as she won't settle down or sleep well.
