Good Morning everyone!  Man, I woke up this morning and it was so cold I didn't want to get out of bed!  It took all I had to not grab Morgan and snuggle with DH until this afternoon :)

What are your comfort foods?  I'm not talking about a candy bar or brownie, but what "stick to your ribs" meal do you make when it gets cold out?  Mine is chicken and dumplings!  That makes me think of cold winter nights and sitting on the couch curled up with a book and bowl of dumplings.  So, my goal for today is to find a lower calorie recipe for this, I know they are out there.  As a matter of fact, if you post your favorite food for this time of year I will see if I can find a lower calorie/fat or whatever to replace the high fat and calorie meal.

If you live in an area where it doesn't get cold....well you stink :):) and I'm moving by you!!

Since I'm from NE, I know it's cliche', but mine is chowder, clam, corn, or seafood, doesn't matter which.  I do have a Skinnytaste clam chowder recipe, oooh I think I may make it this weekend.  If I post the clam chowder one if someone has a healthy corn chowder recipe would you be willing to pass it on?

  • mmm, I love all the foods you all are posting. In the winter/fall, I love soups as well as chicken and dumplings. Another fave is shepard's pie and I usually try to make it with ground turkey to be healthier. For a quick version of chicken and dumplings and it's pretty healthy I use this one https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/easy-chicken-and-dumplings (you can use a rotisserie chicken to save time) Also, I put some seasoning in the biscuits like basil and it tastes awesome.

  • We live in the south, so some winters it gets cold and other winters it doesn't....but it usually at least gets cool. My favorite go-to is Chilli and a grilled cheese sandwich. I don't have a set recipe for chili- i have several different recipes and make it differently depending on what I have on hand and how much time I have.

  • Wow, I am such a little kid when it comes to my comfort food.... grilled cheese & tomato soup.

My mom and I get fancy with the meal when we get together by adding spinach & maybe crab to the grilled cheese and similar veggie/meat additions to the tomato soup.

  • I love grilled cheese and tomato soup!  I add noodles to the soup and make the grilled cheese with different cheeses to mix it up.  Morgan LOVES grilled cheese, we cut the crusts off and cut the inside into squares and she eats it like it's going out of style.

Now I want grilled cheese and soup for dinner!!

  • @excitedaunt2b, how does Morgan eat the cheese?  I'd be soooo paranoid that Skye would choke.  We gave her jar food yesterday that had tiny chunks of carrots and she choked and I almost had a heart attack.
  • It's melted, she has 4 teeth on top and 3 on bottom so I wasn't sure if she could do it but the inside is soft and she hasn't had any problems with it.

Morgan has never choked on food, I thought she was but she was just unfamiliar with the texture and was coughing and spit it out.  Kinda funny when I calmed down :)
