Along with the pretty run-of-the-mill vacuum and insect fears, I learned yesterday that my 2-year-old is terrified of the windshield wipers. I thought she was just in a grumpy mood when she appeared to throw a tantrum the last time it was raining, but when I merely tried to use the wiper fluid yesterday she completely lost it. Sobbing, hiccuping, coughing tears of utter terror.
The dryer, big clouds, balloons. She was afraid of fans for a long time...
DD was afraid of fans too! Now she loves them and is always making me turn them on. She has a weird tendency to eventually love all the things she used to be afraid of...hope that's what happens with the windshield wipers.
DS is fearless. He has not cried because of things yet (11 months old) my SDs were huge giant scaredy cats. SD2 still won't shut the bathroom door ever because she's scared. She's 11. DH hates it, she poops with the door open. She also wouldn't go down a hall if the light wasn't on, even in daylight, not even a few feet to flip the switch.
SD1 didn't want to go to a sleepover last summer because it was a 2 story house which is too big and she could get hurt and the parents wouldn't be able to hear her. She was 11 at the time.
She was TERRIFIED of these painted ply wood ghosts at the zoo the other day, like omg DH and I could NOT stop laughing. They were really friendly looking and nothing to be afraid of.

I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you., Anywhere, I would have followed you.
About a year ago DD was afraid of a farmland bacon commercial. The commercial was literally just bacon sizzling in a pan, and she would cry and run away if it came on tv.
My kid is terrified of those Koala Baby changing tables. If she sees it, she starts grunting/whimpering. If I put her on it, all hell breaks loose. It's just the Koala Baby ones though. Any other brand and she's fine.
We definitely went through the phase of being terrified of nose blowing/sneezing around 10 months. Now it is his fisher price dragon ball toy. He plays with it just fine if it is off, but when you turn it on he is petrified!

Now she tells me that almost everything scary.
I really hope she's not scared of bacon. That would be awful!
DD is scared of hand dryers. She'll say "Mama, do they have paper towels? I am NOT using that scary thing!" while pointing to the hand dryer.
DS is absolutely terrified of DD's toy unicorn. He doesn't want it near him to begin with, but if you push the button in the ear it makes noises, and he runs and screams.
Mannequins in stores, the Clifford cartoon, a poster of rare steak at Target, and anytime someone gets dirt or a pie on the face on a show (you'd be surprised how many times that happens in children's programming). Yet she's not afraid of the dark or thunder. My kid is random.
The only thing that has ever scared my son has been a sheep at the fair. He was in his stroller and it BAAed loudly right in his face. To this day he still says "baa" in kind of a scary tone and treats his " little people " sheep differently than the other barnyard animals.
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:
There is nothing he is afraid. It sucks. He is really interested in everything and doesn't get afraid of things that are supposed to be scary. I don't think he likes the dark, but he never cried about it. Just got up and turned the light or night light on.
DS is scared of ball popper toys like this. He likes peek-a-boo and games like that, so I don't think the surprise element is the problem, but the noise is scary to him. He always crawls over to us and wants a hug if anyone turns this toy on.

What is it about raw meat? Glad my kid isn't the only one.
DD constantly talks about a bear getting her. She says she sees bears all the time and says "Its gonna get me mommy!"
So of course last night there was a bear in our yard and I held her by the door and we watched him eat crab apples. About 20 minutes later I realized that showing her the bear may not have been a great idea. She flat out refused to walk to the car this morning. "A bear get me mommy!"
Re: Ridiculous things your kid is scared of
Now, because a dog hit her ass, she's particularly afraid of little dogs.

And I've noticed lately he has been checking the sky for owls and saying "Where is the owl, mummy?"
WHERE do they get this stuff?!! And do owls even live in Canada?
Owls, fuzzies (especially toe lint), drains, anything Monsters Inc, small dogs (not large ones), geese, the dark and cows.
