Total Sleep - Night plus Naps

I think my DD is getting too much day sleep and it is affecting her night sleep.

She has recently dropped a night feeding (used to wake around 11 and 0400) but now has just been waking once around 3am but is awake for almost an hour and then goes back to sleep until 5am when up for the day.  It sucks since I get up at 430 for work so being up from 3 to 4 means I am up from 3am on!  I think she is just more awake since she no longer has the first waking and also naps a decent amount during the day.  I just wanted to see the numbers for everyone else to see if I need to start shifting nap sleep to night sleep...

Night: 9 hours...  7pm to 5am with 1 hour awake

Naps: (3.5 to 4.5 hours) ... either two 90 minute naps and one 30 to 60 minute nap or 2 two hour naps.

What does everyone else have?  I am curious to see if those with longer night sleepers have less total nap time...

  • I think that sounds fine.

DD sleeps about 11 at night and between 1-3 hrs of naps a day. So, I'd say 13-14 hrs on average.

  • Hmmm... so this makes me think I should see how a decrease to maybe three hours of daily naps might help her a little at night?

  • Her sleep schedule sounds fine to me. My DD sleeps roughly 10-6 (8 hours) wakes up to eat and right back to sleep until 9-9:30 which makes about 11-11.5 hours of nighttime sleep. Then usually takes either 2 1.5 naps sometimes one long 2-2.5 and one hour nap. So basically about 14 or 14.5 hours.

  • My DD sleeps about 11 hours straight at night and takes two naps with a total of 3-4 hours of nap time per day. My sleep books said to not go more than two hours for a nap and to wake them up if they do try to sleep more than that. Also, at this age, they said between 3-4 hours of nap time during the day with 10-12 hours at night is good.

  • My DD sleeps 7-7/8. With usually 1 quick feed in the middle. She then naps about 3 hours a day divided into two naps.

  • DD goes to bed between 7-8 and always wakes up between 6-7 so about 11 hours of sleep at night. She takes two 1.5hr naps (so 3 hours of napping) for a total of 14 hours/day.

  • DS get 12-14 hours at night with one feeding, then approximately 3 hours of naps (one is one hour, the second is two). So a total of 15-17 hours sleep.

  • I put DD back in her crib no matter what if it's not at least 630 AM. Usually she'll cry for a few minutes and either go back to sleep or start playing with one of her loveys.

    DD's typical day -

    nap 930-1030
    nap 2-3
bed 6-630 [sometimes as late as 8]
  • Dd goes to bed between 7 and 9 (depending on the business of the day, after daycare she's exhausted, a more low key day not so much) and she's up between 6 and 7.

Naps from about 9-10 and 2-3. I don't think she takes the second nap at dc usually though.

  • DD sleeps about 12-13 hours at night. At daycare she averages maybe an hour total of sleep either one hour nap or 2 30 min naps. Sometimes it is a little bit more or less. At home she takes 2 1.5(ish) hr naps.
