DH Has The Sniffles

DH came home late from work tonight and says he thinks he's getting a cold because he has a scratchy throat. SO that meant that after making dinner, I had to clean it up, feed, change and sooth LO, pick up and get our night time routine together all on my own. I asked him to hold LO for 5 minutes while I washed my face and he asked if he shouldn't touch her incase he gets her sick... Ummmm if I get sick does that mean he'll stay home from work and I won't have to feed, change or touch LO until I'm better??? NO. Man up and hold your baby, maybe just don't lick her face with your germs. Jeeze.

Sorry for the rant I just really needed to vent. I swear I love my husband and he's an amazing father, but he does not do well with colds.

Anyone else's husband turn into a five year old when they're sick? How do you manage?!?

Re: DH Has The Sniffles

  • Men just can't handle being sick. And yes, Id take on all duties if he got sick (we both work full time) but I wouldn't expect him to return the favor. Men aren't as strong as women. DH would show appreciation though. He'd take on much more of the house work and give me a good back rub which works for me!

  • Damn I would be so much more on board with it if I got a back rub out of it!!!!

  • Maybe you can give him the option of baby or back rub:)

  • My H has supposedly has had something wrong everyday for the past month... And he's a whiny baby about it.... Maybe that's rude of me? I feel like a single mom as of late..
  • Ah the man cold. Yup, when DH is sick I have to take care of two babies. It's the greatest. Not. :-L

  • Yeah I have NO idea how single moms do it! And I'm not even back to work yet!

  • Did he stop touching you too? Unless he completely cuts off contact with you as well, it is highly likely that LO will be exposed anyway. Honestly, living in the same house as someone who is sick means you will get exposed. It sucks, but it's the way it is.

Luckily, DH isn't a big baby when he's sick. He got really sick as a kid (rheumatic fever and spinal meningitis all in one year), and he hates being an invalid. He often does too much when he's sick and just makes it worse.

He stopped kissing me on the mouth and we haven't DTD yet so that's not an issue (well it IS but I digress) but you're right, he's still in the house touching things. Oddly enough though he felt ok enough to go to work today... So he basically just got a night off of dad duty. Hmmmm... Maybe I should "get the sniffles" lol

That's terrible about your DH as a kid though! Yikes!

  • DH had a sinus infection while he was away on military exercise and checked with a Dr before coming home for the weekend. The doc said if baby is breastfed she has immunities and should be okay. He washed his hands and wore a mask and DD was fine. I also had a cold last week and DD isn't showing any signs of it. I would not let DH use it as an excuse to get out of patenting duties! That's what being a parent is all about. You can't call in sick!

  • H got a chest cold the week before I had Finn and you would have thought the world was ending. I was nervous he wouldn't be a allowed in the hospital but his fever died and I was a week late. He has kept the cough and now randomly will cough really loudly and wake up the baby.. Seriously? Walk in the other room when he's sleeping.
