Bedtime routine

Did you start doing one yet? What do you do? I worry about putting him down if he's not asleep even drowsy, I find putting him in bed if he's not ready upsets him so much he goes from drowsy to pissed and 100% awake in seconds. Usually our last nursing session in the 9 o'clock hour knocks him out for the night so that's all I'm doing at this point but I think it might be getting time for a routine.

Yes! I've been lotioning and putting Jammie's on at 7... He's down for the night between 7-8 every night for the last 2 weeks. So far it's going good. Getting about 7 hours :)

  • @Fitzkitten do you lotion Jammie's then feed or Jammie's then bed, is lo asleep when you put him down?
  • Bath around 7, then DH gives her a bottle while I pump, we have the lights dim and tv off until she starts showing signs of sleepiness and then one of us takes her up to the nursery and swaddle then rock her to sleep. I dream feed her around 11 and then she sleeps until 4ish.

We decided to do a nightly bath because she loves them and it keeps it consistent. We only use soap every 2-3 days though.
  • I'm in the same boat. LO is 9 weeks and we usually start our marathon nursing about 8:00 ( off and on) and she's asleep 9:30-10. I hate that it takes so long. We try to do a book but she hardly makes it through one without getting upset. We do a bath about every 2 nights...more if she had blowouts or a lot of spit-up.
    Sleeping isn't great....some nights 4-5 hrs, others just 2-3.

I started one this week and I haven't seen any change yet. I'm goign to keep at it.
Eta: maybe it's starting to work. We're in bed a little earlier tonight too.

Lotion, Jammie's, feed. He is still eating every 3 hours during the day so it gets tricky to always stay on schedule. I put him down drowsy, he will fuss just a little..I will check in on him whenever he makes a little cry and just pet his head a little and put his binky back in his mouth, It takes him about 20 min to really fall asleep...but so far he is doing well with it, and I really think the routine and letting him really fall asleep on his own without rocking or bouncing is helping him stay asleep longer.

Starting at 6:30 (ish) bath, lotion, story, swaddle, bottle, bed. We typically rock him to sleep or almost but he's great at going to sleep on his own when he wakes up. Takes an hour total max (depending on how long story time goes). He sleeps usually 8-10 hrs, eats, then goes another 2-3 hrs before getting up. He doesn't take long naps during the day but I'll take the night time sleep!

  • My H doesn't even get home til 6:30.. And he wants to be able to see him so LO usually doesn't go to bed til 11... And he wakes up around 2, and then 5. He sleeps til 8 and then 11.. But I have to be up and at it by 5.
  • No routine yet really. I started one with DS1 around 5 months (bath, nurse, book...I never nurse to sleep after 5 months) when he went to sleep in his own room, until then we just winged it.

Planning on doing the same this time. However, I have been blessed with two great sleepers. So even now DS1 is 2 and doesn't really stick to a set routine but goes down and sleeps like a champ.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • Change diaper, lotion, jammies, feed, burp, snuggle, sway/rock to sleep, transfer to RNP when he's knocked out.

I've had better luck waiting until he's knocked out. I've put him down several times when he's drowsy and he just sits there awake for, forever it feels like. He doesn't normally get fussy but he doesn't go to sleep either.

We start the routine around 8 and by 9,9:30 the latest he's in the RNP.

    My baby is ONE!!

  • When he wakes up from his after dinner nap, we bathe or sponge bath, then play a little, then the bed time bottle (between 7-8:30) and I let him just snuggle asleep on my lap for at least 30 minutes before I put him in the RnP. The last couple nights he has gone 8 hour stretches before having 1 motn feeding

  • We put DD in her jammies around 8ish then she usually naps on the couch or RNP on & off until 10ish then we all head to bed (she in the PNP).  She's usually asleep by 11 and wakes up around 6ish.  I'm afraid that her bedtime is too late but it's been working very well with us.
  • We really don't have a routine, and probably won't start one for a few more weeks.  DH doesn't get home from work until around 8:30 or 9, and leaves for work around 10am, so if I put her to bed too early, he wouldn't ever get to see her.  I usually am feeding her when he gets home, and he hangs out with her and I get her jammies on and she ends up falling asleep, and then I feed her again around 11:30 or 12, and then we go to bed.  She sleeps until around 6:30 or so, so even though she doesn't really go down until later, and we don't have a real routine, she still sleeps okay.  It's not what is right for everyone, but it works for us right now.

  • We dim all the lights and do one feed, then do a massage with lavender lotion, swaddle and turn on white noise and do another feed to get her really full. She goes down already asleep sometimes, other times just drowsy and we'll rock the RnP a little until she dozes off. We've been doing our routine for awhile and she's done great with it. 6-8 hour stretches!
  • We don't have a routine but she usually is ready to be swaddled and put down around 9pm

  • We do a feeding around 8:30/9:00, usually after her post dinner nap, then bathe her (soap every 3 days, water the rest), jammies, sometimes she'll eat again for a couple minutes, then sing or read a book depending on what time it is. She goes in the pnp around ten and has been promptly going to sleep. She even had a meltdown when she wasn't in bed by ten last night, so maybe she's finally getting her little routine down!
