Teeth cleaning

Anyone had a regular teeth cleaning around 36-37 weeks? How did it go being reclined for the work for a while? I'm due for one tomorrow.

I also can tell I have a large cavity on one of my back teeth -- I can see it in addition to some sensitivity. I wish they'd fill it so I don't have to go back and juggle a nursing newborn in the dentist's office. But I have a feeling they'll make me wait until after delivery.

Re: Teeth cleaning

  • I had a cleaning around 33 weeks and found the dentist chair pretty comfy.
  • Loading the player...
  • Ask them if they can temporarily seal the cavity with something like super glue... They have to have some kind of temp fix that can dry quick... Otherwise ladies we need to invent one!
  • You will be fine. I had my teeth cleaned yesterday and 2 crowns done last month. They will deff do a filling for you you just need to have your ov fax a note, they used a diff kind drugs cause you are pregnant
  • I had a dentist apt a couple weeks ago and the hygienist leaned back the chair and gave me some towels to go under my back. That helped.

  • The chair wasn't bad, but now my gums are so sensitive it was painful! I just went for a cleaning, I love the dentist, but not when pregnant!
  • I just would have my pregnant patients lay towards one side and then the other side.  It makes it a little awkward to clean some parts but if they really can't get to a place they can do just that part with you on your back and then go back to leaning on your side. The office I was at had a small pillow to use as a wedge too.

And @ashleyross  That is far more common than you'd think!  Popcorn bits/poppy seeds/sesame seeds can all wreak havoc if they get down in a pocket.

  • Thanks for reminding me. I've been meaning to make an appt and keep forgetting.

  • I went last week at 35 weeks- comfortable and no cavities!!!
  • I need to get mine cleaned. They are so sensitive now!
  • I went in at 20-something weeks, and they just didn't recline the chair very far.  This meant that the hygienist had to do a lot of her work standing instead of sitting, but it worked pretty well.
