Reoccurring fever?! Help!

Hey all!

I'm looking for some advice from those of you with older toddlers. My 3yo daughter has had an on/off fever for the past two or three weeks. This is what happens: she complains that her stomach hurts, and then she spikes a low-grade fever. It's about 100.5. She also says her throat hurts. It sticks around for about a day or two, and then it goes away for a few days. Then it starts all over again. I finally took her to an urgent care on Monday because we were going on a family trip to another state on Tuesday, where they did a strep test and a UTI test. Both came back negative. Well, we have been on our vacation for four days and she has been find this whole time, but last night it happened again. Have your little ones ever done this? What would you do??

Re: Reoccurring fever?! Help!

  • My DD did not have the same symptoms, but she did have what I considered to be frequent low grade fevers last year. It was also her first year in preschool, which I'm sure had something to do with it. I asked the doctor, and he told me since the fevers weren't high it was probably just her body fighting viruses that she caught at school. Eventually it stopped happening.

It's probably nothing, but if you're concerned I would talk to your pedi.

  • DS had similar symptoms and they tested him for Epstein bar (kiddie mono). Turned out it wasn't that, but might be something for you to check out.
