Sleep and Wonder Week

DD is set to be approaching the second wonder week in a couple days and the last couple days have been extremely trying so I'm wondering if it's here.

She hasn't been clingy to me but her sleeping as been pretty awful. Choppy night time sleep and it is a straight up production getting her to nap. She just had a whopping 10 minute nap. Woohoo. I'm not sure if her fussiness is from being overtired or related to the wonder week or both.

Has anyone noticed a sleep change when their LO has the wonder week? I'm crossing my fingers it is related to the WW.

Re: Sleep and Wonder Week

  • DS totally changed up his sleeping schedule during this second leap. He's been super cranky and for a few days he went from sleeping a good 4-6 hour stretch and then a 2-3 hour stretch to being up every two hours to being up every hour! It was a nightmare! His sleep is relatively back, but I think he's still going through the leap with his crankypantsness.

  • If you want to know more about the 2nd leap, go to the post hush little baby... My lo isn't there yet so I can't speak from experience. I just know all the info on the 2nd leap is on that post if that could maybe help you.

  • Mine is definitely going through the same thing! She's a few days into the second leap and only taking cat naps through the day. I don't have as much to complain about at night because she had me spoiled with 9-10 hours of sleep at night before the leap. But she woke up for MOTN feedings twice at the beginning of the leap, now she's sleeping 8 hours at night. She's also the opposite of clingy, she usually just wants to be left alone in her swing or on her activity mat.

Good luck to you in getting back to normalcy!
  • I definitely did with DD1, but not so much yet with DD2.

  • @blondiebia21 I have the app but it doesn't really say anything about sleep

I know she hasn't gone through the leap yet because she doesn't turn her head toward sounds. So I'm hoping this is the beginning of the leap and can explain some of her behavior.
  • Yes! Mostly with the day naps. Makes me look forward to him starting day care next week when it'll be their problem!! ;) He will only nap in my arms and wants to be held all day. Yesterday was my saving grace only because we visited my hubby at work and all the ladies wanted I hold him. LO totally loved it!!
  • Definitely. Savannah is 8 weeks now and has been fighting sleep for the last week. She does seem to be more aware of her surroundings when she is awake though. I just have to be careful to not overwhelm her. She woke up in the carrier yesterday while I was a bout to check out at hobby lobby. She too one look around and broken down. I'm talking full blown melt down. I think it was just too much for her delicate senses.

  • @CBiggs85, FWIW my LO is at the 8 week mark on the WW app and she's finally back to normal sleep patterns. Fingers crossed, she will have another 2.5 hour nap in her crib today and sleep tonight like she is currently doing right now. She's working on a 10.5 hour stretch of great sleep in her crib right now!
  • Yes! Sleeping has been awful!! Very short naps and last night was awake for 5 hours (some 10 min maps) before going down for a solid nap. We were doing 5-6 hours at night and now it's 2-3. Ready for wonder week to be over!
