Boozy Milk

Got home Saturday night after one beer and a shot of Fireball and needed to pump before bed because LO already had a bottle while being babysat. I felt the tiniest tipsy at that point so wasn't sure if the 6oz. I had pumped was OK or not booze-wise. SO we saved the milk in the fridge and bought the strips on amazon and this was my result from testing it today...

6 oz of milk I have to dump!!! Wahhhhh!!!!!

Aaaand now I'm second guessing anytime I drink because I pumped about 3 hours after those two drinks and my milk was still boozy!

Well, there goes my plan of a glass of wine after LO is down for the night.

Eta: I wanted to add that I know how much it sucks to waste pumped milk. I accidentally dropped the bottle I pumped 5oz into this morning. Gives a whole new meaning to the term crying over spilt milk.

My doctor said those strips are notoriously inaccurate. She said she tried one without having drank anything, and it came back positive! I think its good to always err on the side of caution...but I still use the "safe to drive, safe to nurse" mentality.

Does a shot have more than a beer? I thought they were basically the same. I mean, it wasn't Bacardi 151 or anything. I'll probably do a couple more strip tests after a glass of wine at night like you said Emerald and see if they test any different. Might as well test one night after no drinks too. Hopefully they don't all come back positive! It really is worth crying over wasted milk!

Side note - Fireball is soooo good if you've gotta take a shot

A shot doesnt have more alcohol than a beer.

A 12-ounce bottle or can of regular beer
A 5-ounce glass of wine
A one and 1/2 ounce of 80 proof distilled spirits (either straight or in a mixed drink)

If you were still feeling it, it was still in your system. "They" figure one an hour, but it also depends on what you eat with it and you seem to metabolize a bit slower the average. Next time, wait until you aren't tipsy, or pump just enough to relieve the pressure.

Someone posted a while back about this woman who sent all her milk to an actual lab for testing. Any amount of alcohol she tried, the tests showed that there was a negligible amount of alcohol in her breast milk.

I forget the title of the thread, but it was very interesting.

I've also been straight up shit faced and had the strip come back negative. I knew I was drunk and wouldn't nurse my kid, I tested just for shits and giggles. But I'd never waste money on those stupid things again.
