Need suggestions about organizing toys and books

Currently we live in a small 2 bedroom apartment and are running out of room for things.  I am trying to figure out how to organize DD's toys and books whiel saving space.  I thought of maybe under her crib but realized there is not enough room since its so low. I have some toys from her birthday that I haven't opened yet because of the space issue.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated, TIA!!

  • Rotate toys every few weeks!  Pack up 1/2 or 2/3 of her toys and books and only put out a few things on a small shelf.

  • Emily's advice. We stick about half into her pack n play (which she isn't in very often) and those cycle out at times. Ones she is not ready for are high up in her closet.

  • rotating toys is great. we also picked up a set of those shelves from Ikea that look like squares, you can put bins in them to store more things and still use the top as a shelf.

This is what we did and it's perfect for organization and saving space! We bought the organizing shelf from Target and bought a few multi colored bins. It works for us.

  • We have the ikea expedit book shelf for toys and books. I also store toys at the bottom if our closets.
  • I also vote for the ikea cube shelves- You can add a couple bins and throw all the little things in there. Also I keep large, cute baskets in a couple rooms of the house and just throw all the random toys in those that accumulate throughout the day. And like pp said, rotate toys if you can. I have a large plastic bin we keep in the garage and about once every month we change the toys out- I also swap with my friends with kids too!

We did this but just put the bins on the bottom 2 shelves of a regular bookshelf... That way we also have shelves for his books.
