Baby still won't sleep in crib or co-sleeper

Hello. I am wondering if I could get some thoughts and ideas. Our DD is 3.5 months old and has never lied flat to go to sleep since day 1. We've tried laying her down sleepy or laying her down after she falls asleep and she always wakes up and cries right away. She slept in bed with me for the first month but since then started sleeping worse and worse and the only place now she'll sleep for any long stretch is her swing so we've just resolved to doing that. Sometimes she'll also take a nap on my or the nanny's lap.

I don't know if this is going to be a really bad habit to break.. I'm hoping she'll want to move to a flat surface eventually. Nothing about this arrangement bothers us right
now and baby seems happy and refreshed usually when she wakes up. I don't want her to CIO.

So, any thoughts or ideas on transitioning her to her cosleeper or crib at some point?

  • Probably need to do it in naps first...Put her in before she gets super tired and see if she'll put herself to sleep. The only danger with the swing is if your LO gets too big.....

  • I agree. Do whatever works for you. My son slept in a baby bouncer the first 5 months. He didn't like sleeping flat and really took to the bouncer so we let him sleep there. At 5 months and a week, we went out of town to my parents' and I decided we were just going to make the switch cold turkey since he was getting too big for the bouncer and I figured that since we were going to a new place, part of the "new" place would be a different sleeping arrangement in the crib. It went perfectly smooth and we never had any issues.

The only thing I would warn about is letting him sleep on you as a habit. If that's the only way he can sleep you might need to start doing some sleep training soon or then you might have a hard time with a crib.

Oh also, if you want to give the crib a try, you can put a rolled towel on one side underneath the crib mattress. It will raise one end and then he won't be lying completely flat. I've heard of doctors suggesting this for acid reflux or to prevent ear infections.
