Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How much is too much?

One thing I love about purees is I know how much he's eating but with solids I have no idea and boy is he a biggie!!! He'll eat 7 to 8 oz of purees and then a 3 ounce bottle which he doesn't always finish. I just made him baby pancakes and he ate 5 about the size of a cookie, maybe bigger and then 3.5 oz of green beans and then I gave him some water but I have no idea when to stop if he keeps reaching for it. He's 9.5 months and I feel he'll eat all day if I let him. He's not chubby so I don't think I'm over feeding him, I just don't know when to stop. So my question, how much is too much for a 9 1/2 month old?

  • He was drinking 30 oz of formula a day plus all the food but lately it's 21 to 27 oz a day. Should I do a little more formula and a little less food? My pedi just said a max of 32 oz at his 9 month appt. He was up to 42 oz when we first introduced solids at 6 months,  he's always been a bit of a piggie.

  • My pedi also said to feed him till he doesn't want anymore but if I dohe takes less than 24 oz. so I limit at bit because I want him get most of his nutrition from formula until he turns one. I know it's maybe silly but once he turns one ill let him eat more solids

  • My pedi has told me that the more food my guy eats the better.  To introduce all kinds of fruits and veggies at this point before their taste buds fully develop so they learn to love everything and can get their nutrients that way.  She also said to work down to between 18-24 oz  of formula.  I say if they are happy and eating, keep going, especially if it's a balanced diet.
