Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Any other advice other than CIO??????

My daughter just turned 6 months last week and up until then she has been sleeping in a roomy bassinet next to my bed. I recently cut out the middle of night feeding and its going great, she is not looking for it. So I decided its time to put her in her crib. I obviously waited to long to do this and now she wants nothing to do with her crib! She was okay for a little bit in it when I tried for the first time the other day but woke up shortly and was hysterical. She would not stay in the crib at all. I am not a fan of CIO out so any advice other than that would help! She has also pretty much been put to bed in the bassinet while sleeping which I think is a problem as well but she has woken up in there and fallen back asleep too without crying.

  • is she in a crib in her own room or in your room?  if in her own room then put the crib in your room first to transition easier.  also, does she play in her crib?  do you have a musical mobile so she can associate being in the crib as a friendly environment?

  • Start putting her down for naps in there first
  • I'd try putting the crib (or at least the crib mattress- use pool noodles under the sheets so LO doesn't roll out) in your room first so the transition isn't too drastic. Here are some non-CIO, gentle sleep resources too that may help... Good Luck! https://evolutionaryparenting.com/gentle-sleep-resources/
  • Thanks ladies! I do let her play in the crib while I put away the laundry and she does nap in it sometimes though I think I need to be more consistent with napping in it. She also has a musical mobile and another fisher price toy that hooks on the side of the crib. I am also thinking that she likes the coziness of the bassint. There is so much room in the crib maybe she feels uncomfortable in there. I was also afraid to put a blanket in there but one of my friends puts a knitted blanket that is a pattern that has a lot of spaces in it so if they cover there face or something they are not totally covered. I think I am going to try that too.

  • I've been reading the No Cry Sleep solution to help with our sleeping issues...she has some great advice for moving to the crib. I don't have much as she has been in her's since 5 weeks.

  • Thanks! I should have put her in the crib at an earlier age for sure! I definitely regret not doing that! Ya live n learn! I will definitely do that with my next child :)

  • We recently made this switch too. I slept with her crib sheet as my pillowcase for a few nights so that the crib would smell like me. :) we also moved her bassinet to her bedroom first and let her sleep in it j her room so she could get used to her new surroundings in something she was familiar with. it may just take a few days too. Good luck!!

Definitely going to try this! Thanks!
  • Fwiw we cover our son with a loosely woven crochet blanket. I swear he sleeps longer with it, plus he will play with it for awhile when he wakes up before he starts fussing. We always keep it below his armpits and it's never been on his face while he was sleeping. Plus it's full of holes so I don't worry about it. But maybe I'm just a horrible mom! ;-)

We have one like this that DS sleeps with. It is always below his shoulders and arms and I felt safe with it, until the past few days .. I don't know why I'm over-thinking it? I haven't taken it out yet but I don't like the "worry" feeling. You're not a horrible mom! ;)

My girlfriend said the same thing the other day! I just reached out to a friend this morning that crochets, i'm hoping she will make one for me and fast lol
  • I also rented the book "no cry sleep solution" from the library. I am hoping that I get some good tips from it!
