DD1 was 6.5 months before she started showing interest in solids. We didn't do cereal or any of that nonsense, though. We went with BLWing and went straight to foods she could hold and feed herself.
There is no reason to do rice cereal. We will skip that completely again and go straight to veggies and fruits. We will probably start as close to a 6 months as possible. I'm really into BLW so we will probably just start slowly with soft foods and go from there!
Like PPs, we're planning on BLW starting at about six months. (I was talking to my mom about BLW, and she said "Yeah, we did that with you, but it wasn't called baby-led weaning. We just didn't stop you when you started grabbing food off our plates.")
DS shows interest between 5 and 6 months. I made him some various veggies roasted and then mashed up. He also loved homemade chicken veggie soup pulsed a few times in the blender. I'll do something similar for DD.
DD3 started the day before she turned six months. We had just adopted a baby, and my mom gave her avocado with my permission. I had planned on doing BLW, but got scared. We stopped purees at 8 and a half months and started her on finger foods. DD4 started at closer to seven months. We are doing BLW and she just wasn't ready. She is 8 months old now and absolutely loving all types of food. I am happy that I decided to do it with her.
