XXW Shoes to accommodate Leg Braces?

So DS just got leg braces today because he is bowlegged.  He usually wears a wide width, but the braces have a heel cup so he needs more room.  I was going to try XW, but I'm thinking XXW might be more comfortable for him.  The only ones I can find are the white mid-ankle shoes from stride rite.  I was hoping for something in a dark color so that they didn't stand out as much.  I know it's not a fashion show, but was wondering if there is anything else out there.  He wears a size 7 toddler.

Re: XXW Shoes to accommodate Leg Braces?

  • My daughter wore hard, plastic braces that were under her foot and then went up behind her calf and we often bought her Umi brand shoes.  We would rip out the cushion that came with the shoe.  Also, New Balance makes shoes for children and they have wide widths along with removable inserts.  I'm wondering if Keens would work too.  They don't come in wide widths but run wide to start with and some styles have thick inserts that come out.  Do you have any family owned shoe stores where you live?  Sometimes they are better at fitting kids with braces or orthotics and the like.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Oh, and we called our daughters braces her "robo legs."  She thought that made her special to have super robot legs.  Ha!

  • Thank you for the suggestions!  I like the "robo legs", maybe we can use that to explain them to his older sister.
