So for any of you who had been following my story of finding out the baby was breech at 40 weeks 3 days and then having the doctors successfully turn the baby the next day, here is the final chapter of the story...
So it took all day of sitting in the hospital but finally at like 4:30-5ish the doctor came in to put the balloon catheter in to help me start dilating. It seemed to be working as I was getting contractions here and there. By bedtime when they were going to give me meds to help me sleep I was having chart topping contractions that were anywhere from 1-4 minutes apart. The nurses were hesitant to give the meds because of the contractions. They finally decided to give me the morphine shot so I could maybe get some rest.
Fast forward to the morning- the nurse took the catheter out which meant I wasn't dilated to 5 cm yet. Bummer but oh well. Then she checks me and says she doesn't think I made any progress!!!! I was wicked bummed. But them the doctor came to check me and with his longer fingers he is able to feel that I was 4 cm- thank god!! So he broke my water right then to try to get things going. And oh boy was there a lot of water. He even commented on how much there was and that he was worried it was going to over flow on the floor!
Anyways that was 8:15 and the contractions started coming regularly. And by 11 I was in some serious pain with each contraction. The nurse had gotten the tub ready and wanted to do a quick examine before I got in. Before the exam I went pee and felt something being passed, thought maybe more mucus plug but when I looked it was yellow/brown.... Miconium (sp). So anyways I get in the tub and feeling good only to then have the nurse tell me that there was a good glob of poop that passed and if the baby was head down usually that much doesn't pass. The dr came to do a check to make sure the baby was still head down. And he felt was he thought was more of a soft bum. He did an ultrasound to confirm and yep the baby was breech again!!!
I totally broke down in tears and lost it for a bit. I had such a horrible experience with the spinal the day before I just didn't want to go through that again. Eventually I sucked it up and we were on our way to the OR. And just to add a little insult to injury the whole time they're prepping the OR and me I was still having wicked contractions with no pain meds!!
Fast forward again to six days pp and here I am holding my little boy Orrin William and big brother loves him and is as gentle as a 16 month can be. Me on the other hand am still in serious pain at times and am also battling a serious blistery itchy rash/reaction all over my belly, chest, and incision area. Went to the dr yesterday and he thinks its either a reaction to pain meds, the surgical tape or a skin yeast infection. I am now on different meds and drowsy with Benadryl, hoping it all goes away soon!!
Anyways that's my crazy birth story of my little guy. Nothing is ever simple, always 5 things at once. But I'm just focusing on this little love in my arms and that he is worth all this trouble.
