DS is almost 16 months and has all 4 molars, I'm still doing the liquid vitamins in his sippy at breakfast, but I didn't know when it was time to move on to another type of vitamin or what everyone else was doing? TIA!
DD just went to the pedi for her 15 month checkup and they asked me if she was still taking her vitamins. I said no because I always forget to give them to her, her pedi said that was fine since she is eating well. He wasn't worried about it, so i"m not either.
None, never have, never been told to. If your child is eating a variety of foods over a week I think it's unnecessary.
We don't really do any vitamins either. DD never took the liquid vitamins. I don't blame her. They are super nasty. Anyway, we do the carlson's d drops because I read that that's really all they need but sometimes we just forget to give them to her. She is a good eater and she does eat a variety of foods and we are still breastfeeding. The pedi keeps saying he wishes she were getting a multivitamin but oh well.

Gosh, it's good to know I'm not the only one! I felt so guilty for not giving them their vitamins--I felt pressured by our pedi in the States when they were young. Here in Scotland though, we are supposed to give them Vitamin D drops since we are so far north.

I hear you. My pedi is super obssessed with the vitamins also. He also told me that just Vitamin D wasn't enough. I just disregard him. DD is super healthy and he always says that at her well visits so I don't understand why he's always insisting that she should be getting vitamins.
I take prenatal vitamins but only because I'm still nursing. Normally I don't take any.

DD's pediatrician told me to start Flinstones at her 18 mo check up but that until she was 2 to only give her half of one every day. But I am not very good about it, and she probably only gets it about 3 times a week.

We use a vitamin powder that DD, DH and I all take. Obviously the dosage is smaller for DD but I mix it in her sippy with juice and water and she loves it. I'm surprised that all of these pedi's have never mentioned vitamins. My daughter has always eaten well but her pedi suggested vitamins very early on.
DS was in the NICU for about a week for some fluid in his lungs - he had to stay to be monitored and for antibiotics, they started him on them at that time and he's been on them ever since - ped always asks if we are still doing the vitamins at every well visit -- I can't stand the smell of the liquid but he doesn't seem to mind - I just asked to see what everyone had "graduated" up to.
I usually give her a half dose of the liquid. Excess vitamin intake is more dangerous than people realize. She eats really well though. I only give her the full dose if she's not eating as well due to teething or being sick.

Lost my dear husband, October 3, 2012. You are the bear of my heart dear, and nothing can take that away.
I've never been told to give vitamins for either of my kids... interesting... they are both at healthy weights, never had any medical issues and are good eaters so maybe that's why? I plan to ask at our next appt though to see what our ped's thoughts are on this.
I'm surprised so many of you haven't heard of adding Vit D. My ped, along with AAP, recommend Vit D for exclusively breastfed babies. I looked into it and agreed it made sense with my east coast winter baby. But maybe you all are lucky enough to live in warmer climates and get plenty of sun
We still add Vit D about every other day and we do a multivitamin with iron once or twice a week because DD was low on iron in her last blood work even though she eats meat a couple times a day. My side of the family has issues with not properly absorbing nutrients from food but if it hadn't been for that, we probably won't be adding vitamins anymore since regular milk is already fortified with Vit D.
I just started the Flintstones gummy vitamins for toddlers. I give DD one a day to help fill in her nutrient gaps. She's a somewhat picky eater so this is what her pedi recommended. It's now approaching colder weather too, so I know she won't be outside as much either. I would think if your child has a well balanced diet, they probably wouldn't need one. But, you could always ask your DS's pedi just in case...
We did Vitamin D (when I remembered which wasn't all that often) when DS was breastfeeding but once he weaned and started eating a balanced diet, I asked his pedi and she said that they weren't necessary unless he began to get incredibly picky and ate less veggies and fruits. She said if I wanted, I could give him half a gummy vitamin per day but it wasn't necessary at this point.
With DS1, he could not tolerate the Vitamin D drops and his pedi told me to not use them...we lived on the East Coast and were moving to Germany so he wasn't going to be getting a ton of natural Vitamin D and she still did not want me to use them.
