Bitchy Co-worker

So there are only 2 of us in my department at work. My co-worker recently took 2 weeks of vacation. Yesterday I woke up and thought nope fuck it! I can't go in an work today. So instead I went out to lunch and drank margaritas with some of my friends (who had off for Columbus Day). And yes DS still went to daycare.

I come in this morning with pumpkin creamer no less...and she is totally giving me the cold shoulder! Seriously?? IDGAF I decided to bump and drink my coffee!!

  • Well, taking a (presumably scheduled) two week vacation is different from taking an unscheduled mental health holiday.

  • I agree with @CinemaGoddess. With only 2 in the department, I'm surprised you don't have to give prior notice (unless it's a sick day).

  • I guess I would be a little peeved if I were your co-worker, too.  But I guess there is creamer?

  • OOh, I bet pumpkin creamer in my coffee while eating a Ghiradelli brownie would be a great way to start my day post 2 week vaca.

  • @libby1978 she calls in often and will get mad b/c I have to take time off when LO is sick. Her "vacation" was not planned for 2 weeks only 4 days that some how snowballed into 2 weeks.

It's no biggie we are friends outside of work. I'm sure she was just in a crabby mood. Besides I would be pissy if she went for drinks and lunch and didn't invite me!! (Yes even if I had to work!) we all need mental health days :)

  • I assume you're from a small area then, where someone would know if you'd been out to drinks without them.

Ummm yes lol very small town in BFE. There are only 2 bars in my town both of which serve food/lunch. But we have a stop sign!! Literally no stop lights hahaha.
  • Meh, I can see being frustrated but she doesn't know you weren't sick so she really has no right.  DH had to take two sick days to take care of DS2 right after I came back from maternity leave.  The day after he came back, the person who covered for him took two sick days.  As much as it could have been legit, it really seemed like she was tit for tatting the situation because she was pissed she had to cover for him.

We are neighbors... I'm from Missouri.
  • Wait-- why is she giving you the cold shoulder?  Because you took a day off?  Or is there more to the story?

Also, I am jealous of your margarita drinking.

  • Would there be fallout if you were caught out drinking when you'd taken a sick day? This would worry me, especially if you're in a small area.

  • I'm way too honest when it comes to sick leave.  I've taken 21 hours of sick leave this year and like 9 last year.  Well, I'm leaving this job at the end of this month and I have 350 something hours of sick leave (that's over 8 weeks) that I will lose.  So, I guess being too honest bit me in the arse.

No... my boss is pretty laid back (hell he would probably want to join!). And I didn't call in sick. I just called and said I wouldn't be in. There were no questions asked. I get 3 weeks vacation and since we didn't go anywhere this year I have plenty of time to cover me :)
  • Sorry I assumed it was a sick day.  At my work a last minute call-in is usually a sick day.  Oh, unless it's because your kid is sick then you have to use your annual (personal) time.

No worries. We have pretty relaxed rules around here!
