3rd Trimester

Losing IQ Points

I'm  almost 34 weeks and have 3 more weeks of work, including this week.  I feel like I'm losing more and more of my vocabulary every day, not to mention cognitive abilities.  Anyone else wallowing in the frustration of diminished mental capacity?  (And yes...I wrote that to sound like I'm not as stupid as I feel.)

Re: Losing IQ Points

  • Haha! I love this post. Forgive my lurking from 2nd tri... Sometimes this board is more interesting and actually has useful information I'm going to need at some point! Anyway- I'm only 20 weeks and I feel this way too. Often times, I forget what I'm going to say before I finish my sentence, and I can't remember certain words or names. I'll be walking across my house to do something, and i forget what it is before i get to wherever i was going. I've always been pretty good with vocabulary but lately, I can't think of certain words if it would save my life! It's so frustrating! But from what I hear, it's totally normal. I can't really offer any advice but I felt the need to respond because I can definitely relate :-)

  • Haha. I'm always starting a conversation and then stopping to think ... what the heck was I about to say? It's annoying and it's only getting worse.
  • I'm part of a homemaking group and they were making fun of me for losing words and not understanding the craft we were making. It was ok because they had all been pregnant and understood. On my way home I got a phone call, I had forgotten my purse.

  • Yes, it was especially bad for me after I went back to work. I kept finding myself thinking, "Who AM I? I used to be sharp! I used to be able to remember things! Now I'm a fumbling mess who can't remember if she locked the door when she left this morning, must less when that report was due."

  • I'm with you! It keeps getting worse. The biggest problem for me is pausing mid-sentence and completely forgetting what I am talking about! I'm 37 weeks and working FT until baby arrives, so hopefully I don't mess anything up at work too badly!
  • Should I mention that it really never gets better. LOL! This is my 5th baby & I feel like I have no IQ anymore. My older kids are always correcting me when I mess up words.

Ah well, at least we're all in the same boat, right?
