Crying hysterically after bath?

Giving our LO a bath every night is part of our bedtime routine. I am not sure what to do here. Keep in mind that our baby is colicky as well. Normally putting him in the bath shocks him out of his crying fit. I am not quite sure if he likes the bath or not, but he stops crying while in the bath. He doesn't laugh or smile or make any noise really, but he kicks like a maniac.

The second we lift him up out of the bath, he immediately continues the crying fit, but much worse. He does not calm down until he gets a bottle and is put to bed. We wrap him in a towel immediately.

Is he cold? Does he just like the bath too much? Or is it simply a continuation of the crying fit?

Should we keep it a part of our routine?

Thanks!

  • My baby does that too. I just really quickly get her in pjs and feed her and then she falls sound asleep.

  • Mine has done the same thing for the past two nights. It a cry like I've never heard before, sounds like she is in extreme pain. I guess it's the cold? Plus I put lotion on before pjs so that might be part of it too
  • We just bought a small space heater for the bathroom cause we were having the same problem. He was definitely better yesterday with it.

  • Thanks for all the advice. I think I am going to try warming up the towel and bathroom to see if that helps!
  • We also do the washcloth on our LO's chest.  Just dip it back in the water and replace it often.  It keeps them warm while in the bath.
  • I do the wet warm washcloth as well. DD likes the bath but I still try to keep it between 5-10 minutes so the water or her doesn't get too cold. She hates the getting out part but once she had the towel wrapped around her and she is up against me as I walk her to her room she calms down.
