Hard time breathing

I'm 36w 2d today and since last night have been up practically gasping for air. I tried switching positions, drinking water, walking around, and sleep sitting up. None of that worked.

I called my OB office and the nurse says this is very common and try 'pushing' LO to change positions. So far I've been feeling the same way. I have no other symptoms aside from difficulty breathing. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any tips on what has helped you? TIA

Re: Hard time breathing

  • For like the last month I have been feeling like this. She sits as high as my body will let her. I have gotten used to it, unfortunately.

  • Thanks ladies. Guess ill just have to suck it up until its over. Hopefully it gets a little better.
  • I had this problem a week or two ago.  I got baby to move by putting a bag of frozen peas above my belly button and a heating pad down really low while sitting up.  Suddenly it felt like she somersaulted and suddenly I could breathe a whole heck of a lot better.  But then again, I was at 33 weeksish then and you are at 36, so I dont know if your LO will have the space to move.  But it might be worth a try?

  • Any time she gets up too high in my ribs I take my hands right about where her little booty pushes out and push down to try to get her to move lower.  It actually has been helping for me.  Of course, then she pushes on my pelvic bone really hard....just can't win

Glad this worked for you. I doubt at this point I can get her to 'flip.' Also, I don't think I want her to flip honestly since she's already in the head down position. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  • I have been having this on and off the last few weeks as well. I have found leaning back in a chair has sometimes provided more room for my lungs. I have also tried lightly pushing her tush when it feels like if it is hitting my ribs. Usually after a few minutes it will get better. Good luck!
  • I'm carrying low and going through the same thing - I will push down on his butt to give myself a break if it gets really bad.

My OB swears once he starts to drop I'll feel better - but I'm not convinced I'll feel better until he's out!!

I hope you feel better soon. There are some great resources on the web if you aren't sure your baby's butt is to help you with this!
