Night crew check in

I'm still up so I figured I'd start it. Dd has been up 3 times since I put her down at 9:45. (It's 11:15 now). I'm hoping she's finally down for the night. Dh will be home at midnight so I'll get some relief if needed!

Re: Night crew check in

  • LO is just staring at me with a big smile instead of actually falling asleep. It's a good thing she's cute :).

@msspeedymarie I've been trying to get her into a routine of putting her down with the purpose of being done for the night, so far no dice :(.

  • @msspeedymarie I'm excited for you and jealous a the same time. I know she's been up 3 times, but it's before midnight so I'll take it! I'm giving it a few more minutes before I try going to bed.

  • Watching the voice. I'm pretty sure LO is going through her 3 month growth spurt. The last two days have been horrible. LO is fussy all day, wants to constantly eat, and won't sleep!! :((

She is finally asleep on my chest....for now. Her longest nap all day was 30 minutes at daycare and that's it. I'm really hoping for an easier night tonight.

I've never put LO down with a purpose, can you guys explain it more? Just interested to hear how you guys go about doing it. She usually always falls asleep on one of us or on the swing.

LO had her 2 month shots today and she's unfortunately been fighting sleep ever since. Poor thing. FI has her now and is trying to get her to calm down and fall asleep, she's exhausted.

My 7 year old dog had a seizure tonight. I was standing in our bedroom changing lo's diaper while Duke laid on our bed like he always does. I started hearing frantic scratches on the sheets so I turned around and he was flailing around. At first I thought he was just having a doggy nightmare so I picked T up and went to get closer to him so he could hear me to wake him up. When I got closer, he was still flailing around, and his eyes were not normal. I then realized I was watching him have a seizure. I started yelling his name as I ran to put T in the rnp, then I hopped on the bed and held him on his side as he was still flailing around harder and harder, yelling his name and FIt finally ran in and he jumped on the bed too. Neither of us knew what to do, Duke finally stopped and I noticed he peed the bed, and there was drool everywhere. I told fi to call the vet, and tears in his eyes he did. Duke calmed down but he was still trembling. The vet said that if it's the 1st time he's done this, than he's ok? He said to only worry if he may have ate something he shouldn't have. He said to just watch him and we would need to bring him in if it happened again.

Tonight will be a long night.

  • @BlondieBia21 that is so scary about your dog! I would of been freaking out too. I hope he feels better and hopefully he doesn't do it anymore. Poor fur baby :(
  • @BlondieBia21 we talked about it a bunch over here: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12120045/night-owl-baby#latest

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog - that has to be so scary. Hopefully he didn't eat something weird. I can't imagine a dog has a seizure for no reason - but hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Thanks, I missed that post somehow.. Going to read now!
He seems to be okay right now, it was absolutely terrifying! We will probably take him to the vet tomorrow to get checked over just in case.

  • We are on night 3 of him in the crib. He's doing great. Me? Not so much. We are doing better with the routine though. And he put himself to sleep tonight, so that's an improvement

  • Just put LO down after waking her for her last feeding. I think she is back asleep soundly. I am hoping we get a nice long stretch tonight, last night she slept all the way through the night and it was wonderful! Fingers crossed!

  • @BlondieBia21 the plan is to start putting her down in her pnp after a changing/feeding once she's a bit drowsy to let her fall asleep on her own at around 9ish. Then put her in her bassinet in our room at 10 when we go to bed. Once we move her to her own room we'll put her to bed there once it's bed time. But so far we're in the same boat as you, she usually falls asleep on one of us.

I'm so sorry about your dog. When I work in an emergency vet clinic we tied bells to seizure dogs' necks so we knew when it was happening. Could you try something like that for the night? Try to take note of how often they happen (hopefully there's no more!) so you can tell the vet, it could be important in diagnosing the cause. I hope it's just a one time thing and he feels better soon, it can be really scarey. If it happens just keep him on his side and protect his head and eyes and just ride it out.

(Sorry, I really don't want to sounds like a know it all. I just know how scarey it can be.)

  • @blondiebia21 - I have been there with watching my dog have a seizure. Nothing you can do but be calm, and try to talk them through it...pet them, soothe them. My pug has them occasionally, no root cause, so no meds needed. I have been through about 4 now and he is 11

Just got home from work. DH was feeding LO a bottle, so I pumped, and am nursing her to sleep now...mostly comfort nursing. She has been sleeping pretty good, so hopefully no wake up calls

  • LO just went down for her long stretch. She napped more today than she normally does so I'm worried she won't sleep as long as normal. She was able to spend some quality time with H tonight while I went to the gym and while I took some me time after dinner. I am probably going to stay up and see if a transit strike occurs tonight while H sleeps. I'm not ready for bed yet and secretly it would be awesome if he could stay home from work tomorrow.

@blondiebia21 I'm so sorry about your puppy, I hope it was a one time thing.

Been trying to get LO down for the night since 10:30 he's been awake off and on since, think there's some gas he can't get out. Been trying to burp him but nothing. And why is it DH hears him, sits up in bed, then does nothing until I get LO. THEN after I'm already up and soothing LO asks if I want him to take him. Umm not now I'm already up and will probably get him back down faster. It'd be nice if DH would take some initiative with LO and not always have to have me ask him or wait till its too late... Although he did stuff and out away all our diapers tonight... Ugh why must he make it so hard for me to be upset with him

    Edit:
Oh and DS has this new pouting thing before he's about to cry. He rarely cries believe it or not mostly just whines or coos. He has however cried in his sleep as though he were having a bad dream and it was a cry we hadbt heard other than in his sleep and he would pout right before. Well I guess it's crossed over and he pouts before getting upset now. It's kind of cute

  • F you h!!! You come to bed and basically throw yourself down making the bed do a horrible, loud creak. You wake me and dd! AND you make no effort to get up when she starts to cry. The last time dd did just a 3 hr stretch was weeks ago. Thank you so much you asshat!!

  • @blondiebia21 I'm so sorry to hear about your pup! Hope this was a one-time thing, and he's ok! I can't even imagine that right now, although my dog just peed on my kitchen floor, so I'm pretty pissed at him right now.

Just fed DS a second time, pumped, and washed some bottles for daycare. I actually got 3.5 oz after feeding him, which is big for me! I'm super happy about that! Tyler will likely be up in another hour, so I'm going to try and take a nap.

  • It's so funny how unpredictable newborns are. Last night LO slept from 8:30-2 then went back down 2:30-6:30. Tonight he decides to sleep from 8-1 but now wants to play! He is soo happy and full of energy lol.... So hard to not smile back at him because its late and I just want some sleep LO.

  • Got lo sleep for six hours. Awesome. Ready to fall back to sleep myself--along weekend away has me tired.

  • @blondiebia21 I hope all is good news when you get your pup checked over at the vet!

@edenrivers I'm going to steal your 6 hours. I don't know how, but I'm going to.

  • DD only slept three hours. She is having a hard time during the day to. I don't know how to get her to go back to 5 hour stretches. I'm so exhausted.

Plus DH has been pulling ot and he left at 3pm and won't be back til 8am. I had no break last night. Just so sleepy.
  • DS fought sleep for over an hour before. Finally got him to settle down by giving him a pacifier. I hope he doesn't make this a habit. It's also his first night back in his bassinet since his cold cleared up. Hoping to move him into the crib by the end of the month.

He slept over 6 hours, though if it were up to DH we would have been up and feeding him over an hour ago. He was making noises but not crying. DH felt the need to wake me up at every noise. I got him when he let out a few yelps mostly to shut DH up. I probably would have gotten 30 more min out of DS before he actually woke up.

  • It's 5:30 and I just got Lo back to sleep after eating. The last two nights she slept through the night and didn't wake me till 6am. I was hoping it was the beginning of a new era. No dice tonight though. I have my fingers crossed that her having her shots yesterday messed it up and she'll go back to sttn tomorrow night.

Blondie, sorry about your puppy issue. Hope He feels better soon.

  • LO seems to have totally forgotten she was sleeping 5-8 hours for the first stretch and is now only doing 3-4 hours for the past few nights. Not sure why the change, or how to get it back to how it was but it needs to change again. 1.5 hours sleep for me up front is not enough when baby girl could be awake off and on the rest of the night.

  • 2nd night in a row of LO sleeping all night!! Sunday night 7:30pm - 6am, Monday night from 9pm - 6am.

I hope she continues to do so! I feel like a normal person again.

  • @mommyames2 I am so jealous of you. So far the longest stretch I have gotten is 4 hours. I don't even know what I would do with a full nights rest!
  • I'm hoping my 5+ hr stretch baby makes an appearance tonight. I feel like I'm flashing back to a month ago after last night.

Well, last night was a bit different. My DH tried to get up with LO in an effort to let me sleep. However, she was still up an hour later (after I heard him get up), and screaming. He was trying to get her to take an additional 2 oz, but had also changed her diaper downstairs. Changing her diaper downstairs is fine, however, he didn't see that the wrong size diapers were in the basket in our living room because I hadn't changed them out yet. Poor girl was in a newborn diaper when she recently has graduated to a one. I would be screaming too if my underwear was too tight....

I took her, changed her, calmed her down, 2 oz was given, she was off to sleepy land in about 20 minutes. Poor DH, he tried.

DH decided that he didn't want to waste the few nb pampers even though DS outgrew them last week. After he leaked through his diaper and clothing DH now realizes why we switched to size 1.
