Do you have a budget for Christmas?

About how many gifts are you planning on giving this year? Anybody else here just giving a few?

Re: Do you have a budget for Christmas?

  • Just a few between Christmas and her birthday. She doesn't need much and I know our families will send things. I think $75 is the budget for Christmas, maybe $25-50 for her birthday but I'm not sure we'll actually spend that much.

  • We spent $25 for Christmas and $25 for birthday. I will be doing a stocking for DS so I imagine I will spend another $50 or so for him.

We plan to do the "want, need, wear, read" plus a gift specifically from Santa for every Christmas. Of course we will pick the gifts until he's old enough to tell us what he wants. I don't plan to spend more than $100 though I'm sure it will be less. I like the idea of only a few gifts each year. Keeps it simple but still fun. Plus he won't have to wait too long to get birthday presents after!

This is what we do.  I like keeping Christmas simple.  We put more emphasis on being with family than on the gifts.  I also hate to buy anything full price or without a coupon, so I am sure that I can probably keep it to under $75 dollars for all 5 gifts.

We're following this too. I know his grandparents will spoil him and it's not like he really needs anything anyway. For his want, I bought him a pull wagon at a consignment sale for $5. It looks brand new! He'll never know the difference.

  • We sure do, lol. DH always waaaay overdoes it for me, but hopefully not this year!

  • I made DH keep it to $100 for their upcoming BDay (knowing we'll be getting gifts from family, too -- and we have amassed so much between consignment sales and DH's Amazon addiction, it's pretty ridiculous). I'll likely make him keep it around the same for XMas, unless there are some big ticket items we're eyeing (namely, the pimped out Radio Flyer wagon with canopy? Drool. I might make an exception for that). ;)

  • We definitely will set a budget but I am not sure what it will be yet.  We have already picked up a few things, mega blocks set, little people nativity and wise men, and a book.  I know we definitely will still be getting more things for her.  For DD's Birthday we plan to get her a toy storage thing and a Minnie Mouse table and chairs set with possibly a couple small things.  I am trying so hard not to go overboard.

  • We set a budget but keep finding things....as long as we spread it out I don't feel so bad! I included a list in the other post on this board. I'm sure other things will come up too.

  • We don't plan to do a whole lot. We have already bought some consignment and whatnot. I'd say our budget is $75 for Christmas and $75 for her birthday. Maybe a little more or a little less.
