car seat recomendations

We just bought a new car so we are car seat shopping again.  We have a **Evenflo Symphony** **edit**and it is such a PIA to get in and out of the old car (Ford Taurus)  that DH is going to be driving so we are leaving it in there. Everytime we take it out it never goes back in the right way.  We have to literally sit in the carseat ourselves to get it back in where it doesn't move around!

We bought a Nissan Rogue and I'm hoping to find a convertible seat that will work in the new car.  DS is still rear facing and I would like to keep him that way as long as possible.   Any recomendations??  Looking to spend $250 or less.

Re: car seat recomendations

  • We got a maxi cosi pria 70 for my car so we could leave our graco seat in my H's car. Moving those seats is no fun. I was looking for something that would last a long time RF and would work for my small car and the cosi seemed like a good fit. We actually got it for less than 250 b/c it was on sale at Albee Baby at the time. It goes up to 40 lbs RF. I don't remember what the length max is but it had good length numbers too.

  • We have a maxi cosi pria 70 and 2 britax marathons. The maxi cosi has a TON of leg room to keep them RFing longer however it doesn't leave much room for the driver/passenger. It does fit really well in the middle though without restricting the front seats.

I love the marathon because it is super easy to install and leaves room for driver/passenger. However it's taller when RFing and creates a blind spot. It also has a lot less leg room for LO.

  • We have Britax Pavillion (used to be Boulevard CS) and grandparents have Radian RXt. Like them both, the radian seems to provide more RF room and is much more narrow.

  • We have a britax boulevard click n safe and a diono radian. We LOVE the radian, and the britax is great. The radian is just so well made and so easy to insall. It also has a RF insert to get the right angle instead of most seats that recommend a pool noodle to get the angle right. It also provides tons of RF leg room for DS over the britax (or other seats we have tried) and gives lots of room to other passengers sitting in the back- it is sooo thin.

We have the Chicco Nextfit. We love the ease of taking it in and out.
  • We have a Britax Marathon and like it quite a lot. It's easy to install, and DS seems comfortable when he's riding in it.

The seat is pretty tall, but I haven't had a problem with blind spots (the seat is installed on the passenger side of the car).

  • We have the Diono Radian and the Graco MySize70.  Both are great and have high weight/length RFing limits.

Britax are great seats but are not the best for taller kids because they will outgrow the shell faster then some of the other seats on the market and may not be the best if you want to RF longer and have a longer-torsoed child.

The Graco is awesome because it has a non-rethread harness and it is REALLY REALLY easy to install.  The Diono is a tad more difficult to install and is really heavy (may be a con if you travel a lot or need to switch cars often) but it is a more narrow seat if space is an issue or if you are trying to fit it next to another seat.

I would highly recommend either the Graco MySize 70 or the Diono
  • We have the Diono Radian rearfacing in our Prius with the angle adjuster. LOVE it and highly recommend.

  • We also have the EvenFlo Symphony e3.  I could totally see it being a PIA in an older car that isn't equipped with the Latch system, but any vehicle with the latch system I find this car seat is SUPER easy to switch back & forth between my car & DH's truck. I love the SureLatch attachment. We are still rear-facing with it too. If your new car has the latch system, it would be a far less PIA I would think.

Our car has the latch system too and we have this https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11468535&cp=&parentPage=search  (evenflo symphony 65LX)

We put it into the new car and without the pool noodles it doesn't sit right either! GRRR!  Maybe I'm doing something wrong?? We can't get it to tighten while latched either!  Any tips??

Looks like our e3 has a different type of sure latch system than your model. With ours it has recline levels so we haven't needed any towel or noodles, but that could just be the luck of the draw with our vehicles seat style.  With the e3 you really just latch each side to the seat & when you push down on the seat it auto tightens. (you hear it clicking into tighter & tighter locked positions.)

Sorry I cannot offer any suggestions on your specific model, but I can for sure recommend the e3 version of the Symphony!

Thanks! Maybe I'll try the e3 out @ Babies R Us.  I'm also looking at the Britax and the Diono
