I wouldn't. We took my son to Sesame Street Live at 18months and he spent half the show walking around. He was scared by them shooting off confetti. The only saving grace was that it was a kids show with lots of toddlers.
At the Lion King you'll have lots of adults who may have paid over $100 to watch the show. I can imagine being pretty upset if a toddler was crying, being noisy or going back and forth with their parent to the lobby. I'd wait on the Lion King till your child is older and can understand acceptable theater behavior. I'm just now comfortable taking my 3.5 year old to the movies where people need to pay for the tickets. My 16 month old only goes to free movies or when the theater has baby days and she's pretty well behaved on those times. I'm considering doing the nutcracker ballet this year for DS but honestly we'll probably wait till next year because I want to be sure he will stay seated the entire time and watch quietly.
bad idea. she would probably enjoy it for a little while and then get antsy. My cousin brought her 4 year old to see it and she said even at age 4 it was just a little too long for her daughter. I mean, she said her daughter did enjoy it but it was a stretch getting her to sit for 3 hours for the show. I would start with like community plays. Many community theaters have shorter shows specifically geared towards young kids.

Bad idea. I took DD to Disney on Ice. It was all for DD1, but we brought DD2 along for the ride. She was fidgety the whole time. Granted, at 16 months, I think she would be a little more interested in what is going on, but not enough to keep her entertained for more than 20 min or so. If you are going because you want to go and are willing to leave at any point, then you can give it a shot. If you are going for her, definitely not worth it.
Gawd no. Theatre tickets are crazy expensive and I'd be super pissed if there was even a peep out of a toddler during a show. And PP is right, many theatres have age restrictions for guests attending performances.

Also this. DH and I went to see the Lion King with another couple. No kids. We each paid $100 per ticket. I don't think it would be fair for someone to bring a toddler to a broadway show.

I can feel you as to why you'd want to do this. I loved going to shows with my parents when I was a kid, but that's way too young. I actually think 4-5 is better. And not all 4 year olds could do it...neither could all 5 year olds.
Thanks everyone! Reading everyone's responses it is sort of a no brainer. I guess I'm just eager to share these things with DD. Of course it'll come in time!
most theaters will not allow anyone under the age of 4 to attend a show out of respect for the others seeing the show. I never would take my child that young, even if they were an angel, because you never know how they're going to react.
MIL bought tickets to take DD1 to see Annie, and she's 4 and I'm worried how that will go.
