Lollacups & other straw cups

I wasn't happy with how hard sippy cups were to drink from so I went to straw cups. They were great except that LO couldn't get the last ounce or so of liquid from the cup. So I tried a lollacup bc of the weighted straw. Big mistake. The cup isn't spill-proof (according to their website) so LO is drenched. He's over 10 mos & the cup is for 9mos+ but I think he's too young to handle it. Any luck with other straw cups?? Help! Trying to wean from bottle.

  • I love the Playtex little grippers for this age! They have handles and have a bit to press down to teach them how to drink. Plus no valve so they aren't 100% spill proof, but they are very easy for little babies. When they get bigger we like the Munchkin insulated straw cups.

  • We use playtex straw cups also! Love them and DD uses them with no problems. Not 100% spill proof but they don't drench DD and if it does leak it's not a whole lot!

  • We are starting to work on the transition from bottles to cups at daycare, so I'm sending 2 bottles (one for AM, one for PM), and a straw cup for lunch time.  We've had good success with the Thermos Foogo straw cups - and they have minimal leaking, even when DD is throwing it around, tipping it over, etc.  When she uses them at home, I dump the breast milk that's left over into a bottle for her to finish (I can't bear to pour any of it down the drain!) - and it's always about a quarter of an ounce... which isn't bad at all in my opinion!

I've also read good things about the Zoli Bot straw cup, but haven't tried it.
  • We use the Nuby straw cups. The straw reaches the bottom, they do not leak (unless she throws them really hard and it hits the ground just right, then the top pops off, but it has only happened twice and we've been using the cups for about a year).

  • Someone on another site mentioned the Zoli bot cup.  I think it is the same thing as what you described with the weighted straw but I haven't ordered one yet.  We use the platex straw one and it is great since it only leakes a tad bit.  But the straw is still too short and we have the same problem.  Yesterday I actually cut down a bendy straw an used it in the platex cup.
