DC closed

anyone elses DC closed today? from the posts it doesnt sound like it.  I had no idea until I called Friday to say DS was going to be staying home with me and before we hung up i said "see you monday!" to which the director replied "no we are closed on monday." I looked at the calendar on line and it says nothing about the center being closed. We had to scramble for childcare this morning because neither DH nor I could take off. Now my poor 8 month old went to work with my parents this morning and my sister is taking him this afternoon. ANNOYING!

    Not only are all holidays listed in the handbook, the school also hangs a sign on the door reminding parents they are closed for X holiday about a week in advanced.

    Daycare only closes for major holidays though. Not random federal holidays.

    The only days our center closes are National holidays and today.  Today they are closed for staff development all day.  They recertify staff on CPR, infant safety, etc.  We are given a month's notice and it's the same day every year so once you've been there for it, you know to expect it.  

    No notice would irritate me, but for us, we expected it and made plans for DD.
    Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

    in their defense...we have only been there for like 6 weeks...so im sure everyone else knew and it was just me that didnt...plus i wasnt there friday when they were probably doing reminders. HOWEVER...the calendar says nothing! we totally would have showed up at 7am wondering where everyone was! grrr.

    Yeah our DC sends home reminders, it's on their calendar and in their handbook. Ours is closed today, but since Dh works for the federal courts they're closed anyway (for the holiday, not furlough).

    It is weird they didn't put it in the calendar.

    Ours is closed.  She lists it in her handbook as one of the holidays she takes, but even with that, she had parents thinking she'd be open today so she had to send a reminder text to everyone.  As far as I'm concerned, while it's nice to get a reminder, it's up to us to check the handbook when we know a holiday is coming up.  Sucks though that neither my nor my husband's company gives us Columbus Day off so I'm taking a vacation day today.  Oh well, at least the sun shining here for the first time in what seems like forever so DS and I are taking full advantage!

    Ours is open today, but I'm off work and DD is sick.. My dreams of a pedicure were officially dashed yesterday afternoon. Hopefully she can go tomorrow though.

    Our center doesn't close unless listed on their calendar, website, and plastered all over the building. And the teachers start reminding all the parents a couple weeks in advance, which is nice.

    Yup, our daycare was closed.  DH stayed with the kids today.

    Where I live, almost all daycares and preschools (and schools) are closed for all Federal holidays.  But even still, our preschool put up a reminder on their bulletin board in early Oct. to remind everyone they would be closed.

    That's stupid since most public schools in my area (me included) had school yesterday.  I only know of one other teacher friend who had off yesterday.

    Ours follows the school schedule so if SD is closed they are closed.

    I stayed home yesterday and we took a trip over to bouncy house place

    Mine was closed too. My babysitter takes all major holidays off plus 2 vacations a year. Luckily I didn't have to work yesterday either (by pure luck). I work with the school district in my town. Yesterday there was no school because a teacher workday coincided with Columbus Day. Normally our kids are in school for that holiday. My babysitter is starting to take more families that work with the school so I think starting next year she will follow the dates kids are not in school.

    Federal holiday == closed, so mine was. But they are only closed on federal holidays so it's not bad. Plus I had the day off too.

    Funny enough I had no work on Monday but daycare was open - so it was a fabulous day for me!  But we have a teacher's day on Friday because all the county schools are closed then too.

    Our center was closed Monday/Tuesday for in house training. It's on their calendar, they do two days twice a year for it, and we were also notified of it during our tour. Neither of us has the holiday off, so we each took one of the days off.
