Outside baby/STM breast feeding duration question

My LO is a week and a half old and feeding can take an hour and a half with burping, her taking breaks, etc...but she still wants to latch and drinks a good amount off and on this whole time. The best we seem to do is 40 minutes, but that isn't as common for us. This seems like a long feeding session...what are your breast feeding session lengths? I hear women are done in 10-20 minutes and dream of this happening with me!

  • It's totally normal. They take FOREVER. In a few weeks or a month, your baby will start to only take 15 minutes or even as little as 5. They get better at it as they get bigger and stronger. Just sit back and find some good trashy TV.

  • LO is one week old, and our feelings usually take 30 minutes incl burping and top-off.

  • I swear DD2 is on the boob all day! Their stomachs are tiny and our supply is still coming in and evening out so give it a while to adjust and you will be able to have shorter sessions with more of a schedule. The first few weeks are the hardest!

  • My first DD was that way. Don't rush it. Just keep feeding and eventually they get faster. Our newest baby is way more efficient and finishes in about 20 minutes. Every baby is different. But I promise that they get faster!

  • At least an hour. My LO feeds for at least 15 minutes a side and then I change his diaper and burp him in between sides. Then there's the 30 minutes to get him to fall back asleep after (but only during the night. During the day, takes about .2 seconds).
  • My LO eats for about 15-25 minutes on one boob, depending on if she is more sleepy or not. Then we burp, and I usually offer the other boob. She has only eaten from the other boob like twice though. So, we are pretty much done then. About 30 minutes all together.

  • Ezra is almost 3 weeks old and takes an hour or longer, especially at night. His pedi thinks his suck is a little weak. We have a PT appt in an hour, she thinks we can strengthen his jaw up a bit.

  • I feel like I am nursing about 20 hours a day right now. ;)

But seriously it takes us about 60 minutes at a time and then I get a break for about an hour unless I am trying to eat or go to the bathroom. Then she needs to eat immediately because she senses I am trying to do something for myself, like poop.

  • Same here. It takes about an hour sometimes longer with nursing, changing, burping, topping off, etc. I feel like he's attached to my boobs but I know it'll get better and he'll get more efficient.

But I hear ya, it's like they're nursing all day long!
