Reflux

Moms to lo's with reflux...what formula is your LO on?

Ds is on similac for spit up but has been constipated. I'm thinking this isn't going to work and we need to try something else.

    Enfamil AR, it has worked but lo only has one bm a day. Since he started on it 2 weeks he has spit up 3 times only. This formula has rice starch ask your ped about it.

    We use similac for spit up and he only has bowel movement about everyother day, but they are large. Doctor seems fine with that. However I am considering switching to Enfamil AR because it comes in more options (8 ounce pre-made  bottles for when we go out or travel)

    They have reflux because their esophogeal spincter (sp?) isn't developed yet.  I'm not sure how a formula is really going to solve that problem.  I'm not trying to be snarky here - my LO has horrible reflux and even projectile vomits, has been to the ER, etc.  So I'm definitely sympathetic.  But I think things like frequent burping, sleeping on an incline, keeping LO upright for 30 minutes after nursing, more frequent/slower/smaller feedings are more likely to be successful at addressing reflux issues than a formula.

    I agree with you, however our doctor suggested that we try Similac Spit Up or Enfamil AR because theses two formulas have rice starch in them and they are thicker and help stick to there stomachs a little bit.  Its the same idea of adding rice cereal to formula for reflux babies.
