1 yr old not interested in walking

My baby just turned 1 and I know all babies are different but I feel like my dd isnt even interested in trying to walk! We try to hold her hand but just sits back down and whines. She sometimes uses her push walker and she will only stand up on her own on the bed. anyone else go through this?

Re: 1 yr old not interested in walking

  • You can't rush her, she will walk when she is ready too. I don't think pedi's even get concerned untill about 18 months

  • Yep. DD actively resisted efforts to encourage her to walk. She figured out how to pull herself up and cruise the furniture, and eventually walked on her own just shy of 15 months. That was well within the wide range of "normal" behavior so we didn't worry about it. At 12 months, you don't need to worry at all.

  • DS had no interest in walking until about 14 months, then refused to even try walking by himself - so we held his hands for weeks (our backs were seriously hurting), and just started walking on his own at 15 months. We have friends' babies who are the same age as DS and haven't even started, so I wouldn't worry. Everyone is right in that babies will do things on their own schedule.
  • Don't worry about it! My DD was 16 months when she started to walk. She wasn't really interested in it until probably around 14.5 to 15 months. Although she was on the later side of walking, when she started she was very sure of herself and really didn't fall at all. And within a month she was running!

If she gets interested in holding your hands and trying great...if not don't stress over it. My DD wasn't interested in that. The only thing that kind of interested her was a play shopping cart. It was pretty stable and occasionally she would practice with that.

Like I said, at 12 months, my DD had NO interest in any of these things. I know its hard not to worry, but please don't...she will do it in her own time!
