DH & I went to Home Depot yesterday and the cashier (why is it always cashiers with me?) asks, "When are you due?" I tell her, "A week or so." After some harmless back and forth about how pregnancy is actually 10 months, not 9 (she had the balls to argue with me), she says, "Well, you think a KID is going to be expensive, try raising a MULE for 18 years! Annual vaccinations, constant appointments at the vet, not to mention the food bill! At least you can breastfeed your kid!"
We looked at each other...silent and mystified. And then we left. DH turns to me and asks, "Is
that what you mean? Does that kind of shit fall out of people's mouths all the time?"
Yup.

What gems have you heard this week?

Re: On today's episode of "Shit Strangers Say"
Wha . . . . ?
LOL. Wow.
I had a weird conversation with a waiter - in front of my boss - about how his wife had a tear. I can't believe that his wife would be happy with him sharing that!!!
Walking my dog yesterday along our usual route. There is this older lady who sometimes sits outside on her porch and waves at me and I wave back to be polite. One time she asked to pat the dog and I've always just thought she's harmless.
Yesterday she decided to get up and walk over to me and says "I have a question - do you walk with your dog every day?"
"Yes, pretty much."
"Well, just a tip. I lost over 100 pounds on Weight Watchers. You can do that and keep walking."
She had no idea I was even pregnant.
Thanks alot lady. I've only gained 15 pounds this pregnancy and thought I was doing pretty damn good. You have ruined it for me.
Baby #2 M/C 4/5/16

Due with baby blob August 2021
Yeah I would have turned around a said something to her right away. What a jerk!
But the weirdest one was, as we were leaving, a lady yelled "Bye, I can't wait until you have the baby!"
Um, I hope you can wait because I have no plans to ever see you again.
I was also told by another stranger at the wedding that he was going to request the chicken dance because he thought it would be funny if my water broke on the dance floor.
Lastly FI's great aunt (not a stranger but oh well) came over and gave me a huge hug and kiss on the cheek. She then proceeded to tell me how proud her husband and her are of us and how well we are doing in life. She also said to make sure to call them when we have the baby, so they can come visit. Sweet, huh? Kiss, weird but whatever. The next day FI's sister asked her other brother if their great aunt pounded Jesus into his head on his wedding day. I guess she gave them both speeches on how you can't let the devil in your marriage and to never let anyone break the marriage apart. She also refreshed FSIL of all of her duties as a wife. Very surprised I didn't get a "you must be married and should be ashamed you are having a child out of wedlock" speech.
BTW the wedding had an open bar
:-O
After you give birth you should take your baby on a walk and make sure you point out to her that you found an even better way to loose weight, by giving birth!
:P
I started getting this questions as soon as DH and I got married. My response was always, "We're not NOT trying" . Didn't even think about how personal of a question it is until now. I think people assume this is an okay question to ask because there are so many more people who are open about having to "try" (or take more extreme steps) in order to conceive.
